Prior to today, I hadn't been involved in the "scene" for probably two years. PS2 emulation is very CPU heavy and a few years ago, my machine couldn't cope.

I suggest looking into this for anyone that is a PS2 fan, has an HDTV/monitor, and a decent comp.

I am now able to emulate PS2 games (tried FF12 and DQ8, so far) at 60 fps, 1920x1080 resolution. I configured my Xbox 360 controller to work with the emulator, and I can now play from the comfort of my couch, and it looks leaps and bounds above the quality of my PS3's so-called "upscaling".

I plan on ripping my entire PS2 library to .iso format and if the PCSX2 community continues to improve the emulator as they have in the last year, I'm never going to use my PS3 to play old games again.

This isn't even a best-case scenario. I rendered the second shot at 1680x1050 with no AA. If your comp can handle it, it's very possible to get going at 1920x1080 with 16x AA.

Oh damn, that looks nice. It's good to know something like this is out there because I keep getting worried about WTF I'm going to do once my PS2 dies. I still have quite a few games for my PS2 that I still like to play from time to time and since Sony decided a long time ago to drop the BC from their systems, I didn't know what I'd be doing.

Damn, making me wish I still had my PS2 games, would be nice playing them with good quality rendering and high res, I used to have an emulator for the N64 that did the same high quality render which made it look so much better.

How fast is fast enough computer spec wise to actually run that properly? I'd definitely re-buy a few of my fav PS2 games if my system can run it, but that i'm not sure on.

Right now my specs are:

Core2Duo e6600 2.4ghz (OC'd to 3.2ghz)
Geforce 8800GTX
8GB RAM

With that setup, I have gotten everything from 45 to 350 fps. Depends on the game and its level of support.

Keep in mind that, as with all emulators, you may not be able to play every single game in your library with ease. Some games run better with certain settings, and some games to this day are not playable. Some games even run best with older versions of the emulator. That said, the community has remade itself in the last year or so and seems to be making some awesome progress.

Most of the popular games are working without a hitch (FF series), but some more obscure titles are still giving issues. Shadow of the Colossus, in particular, I can't get past 10 frames per second.

Hmm, maybe then, Ram I have 4gb which I'm sure is fine and a Radeon 5770, but my CPU's definitely the weak link as it's only an athlon 64 X2 OCed to 2.75Ghz, though the games i'd want to play which I checked and it said they worked are both RPG's, so even at 30FPS it would be completely playable I would think.

Ram doesn't have much impact past 2gb, and any GPU equal to or newer than Geforce 6-series/Radeon X1300 series will be fine. The big bottleneck (as with most emu's) is CPU, and they recommend dual cores running at 3+ ghz.

I've been dabbling with pcsx2 off and on every few months for... a long time now. Unfortunately my computer has remained the same. :P

Barring any major improvements in the emulator or any of the plugins in the past few months, I can only play with a mild degree of playability. Processor definitely seems to be by far the most important, though I'll admit I'm not nearly as technically-inclined as many here on the Glade. Core 2 Duo 4300, 1.8ghz is not exactly an intimidating processor nowadays. In my testing, some parts of FFX would run smoothly enough, but other parts (especially the transitions between running around and fighting) would slow down a lot.

Still, if my relative dinosaur of a computer can vaguely sort of manage, I would definitely suggest people give this a try. They have a lengthy, fairly detailed compatibility list of PS2 games on their site, if you're interested in any individual games. Though it doesn't list any of the Persona games at all... likely a bad sign. :(

Emulation hasn't been simple since the SNES era, but this is a pretty sweet program.

Well that sucks, went and bought FFX-2 to test it, we didn't realize you need a bios for it and they don't provide it, they only provide the tools to get it off your PS2, which my PS2 is dead and in a landfill.

PM'd

Also, keep in mind that a lot of games require individual settings to work optimally. If you search the forums for whatever game title you're trying, it'll be pretty easy to find out what works best.

Well I have it working, it looks great and at decent frame rates too with FFX-2, 60fps outside combat but it does drop down in combat to 45-50ish, the thing is i'm not sure why it's dropping, I doubt it's my video card but it's not maxing out my CPU (around 80% usage) and it's only using 2gb of ram so not maxing that out either.
