I second that. There is a bug running rampant through our community right now. Our kids had them this past week and I'm just waiting for it to be our turn.....

This thing has a pretty long incubation period. About a week to ten days. You think you're in the clear and haven't been exposed, then ...

If you've been having problems for long, you need to check to make sure it's only a virus.

Not too long ago, I thought I was just having a stomach virus, but it didn't go away after a couple of weeks, and it got worse... After a exam they said it could be more... then after a CAT scan they said it could REALLY be more... read the "phobia" thread in general for the rest of the story.

I think my wife had this. About a week prior both kids were throwing up. Saturday morning she wakes up queasy and then barfed later on. Must take forever to hit you. Hope I'm not next.

I so don't wanna hear that....that is a long incubation period. I thought it was (depending on the virus) anywhere fro 8hrs to 4-5 days from the initial infection to onset of symptoms?

Wow, sounds like this bug has made its way across the country. We had this here in California back in ... November, maybe? October, even? Projectile vomiting, painful dry heaves, immobilized for about 12 hours, it was great.

I caught it from my kids after about two days, iirc.

Nah, it's just a virus. Caught it indirectly from my nephew. I'm already over it, mostly. But from about midnight Saturday to around 8am Sunday was spent either puking or trying not to puke. I'm already over the nausea; just feeling tired and sore.


It depends on the specific virus and strain thereof. Norovirus is the most common viral stomach bug, and it's only about 1-2 days. Chicken pox is usually about 2 weeks, but can be up to 45 days. Mono is really long -- usually at least a month from exposure to symptoms.

My sister just had this over the weekend, but she says she is fine now. I'm queasy every morning, but it's the meds I'm on...unless there are other symptoms I wouldn't know the difference!

Christopher (middle child) got it on Sunday night/Monday morning 'round midnight. It is just lovely when a 4 year old covered in his dinner wants a hug.

Sometimes you can't even take anti-emetics when you aren't vomiting. I had a stomach virus strike in the middle the night about 6 or 7 years ago*. Vomiting ensued. The next day, around noon, I was feeling a bit less nauseated, so I tried drinking some Sprite. Okay. 30 minutes later I seemed to still be doing alright. I was still feeling a little nauseated, though, so I decided to take a little Emetrol. Not more than 2 minutes later I'm hurling up Sprite and Emetrol. Go figure.


* Isn't that weird? Why do stomach viruses always kick in at night? I've never had a stomach virus strike before about 8PM, and no one else I know has, either. I'd really like to know why that is. Wild-ass-guess: something about normal eating patterns? I can understand why you might be okay until after you ate breakfast, but I don't understand why you never get sick in the middle of the day.

I have no idea why that is....if I get ill its almost always in the late evening. My son, for the past 8 years, without fail gets sick early morning usually within 3 hours of waking up.
I never really thought about that. Huh.

Probably has something to do with your body being at the more worn down end of your day cycle, when you are more prone to infection, if I had to guess.
