So yeah, I'm barely beyond a beer virgin.

So far, I found I like light beers the best (Corona Light is really the only one I have had much experience with), so looking for suggestions. Doesn't have to be a light beer per se, just something you think a beginner beer drinker would prefer.

I picked up some Labatt Blue (Light) on a recommend, and it's pretty darn good.

Coors light is about all I drink. I also have a fondness for Full Moon if the mood is right.

I recommend going to a higher end local package store that carries a good deal of micro-brews, and allows for a "build your own 6-pack" option.

On the very rare occasion I have a beer, I like a good India Pale Ale. It is an acquired taste, most people don't like it right off.

Of course having some fantastic microbreweries in Northern California helps, a lot, to keep my rare indulgence to a quality brew. If you're only having one beer this season, why settle for American Grain Beverage. go for something tasty.

Second Rynar's variety pack idea! Get nuts about branching out, too. I mean you're going to want to get some surprises - you've basically only ever had pilsners/pale lagers, and there's a whole world of porters and stouts and bocks out there waiting to make your acquaintance too, and those taste nothing at all like anything you've had before.

In the vein of stuff you've had before, let's see... I like Moosehead and Pilsner Urquell, Sam Adams Boston Lager you can get pretty much anywhere too. I think Negra Modelo with a slice of lime is always good. McAuslan Brewery's St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout is, okay, maybe not so good a place to start. I love it, but it's a little... thicker? I guess that's as good a word as any. It's like the chunky soup of beer, beer that drinks like a meal lol. Might be a challenge to find though. Corsendonk is really good too - pale or brown ale. And if you really want to get out of your comfort zone, drink it at room temperature. It's a completely different, more full bodied ale if you're not drinking it cold.

This thread is ruining me, I'm going to the store now.

I've been on an pale ale kick lately. Alesmith X (extra pale), or Alesmith IPA (india pale ale) are both quite delicious. As Michael said, though, it's really an acquired taste. I liken it to drinking a pine tree.

I prefer white wheat ales these days mostly......at first, it tasted wierd, but after drinking a few I fell in love. Especially if you can find them "on tap" at a local establishment

For average, everyday easy to find (made by Coors)


If you can't find it on tap (which is better than the bottled imho) you might lean towards more expensive brands such as .....



or Leinenkugel's...


There are a ton of "wheat" ales on the market, just try some out. They tend to be much "lighter" than the lagers, etc.....if the dark, bitter-ish turns you off

Blue Moon I actually kinda do like. Haven't heard of a lot of the others listed here, tho.

Generally I just stick to bud light or bud light lime. Tried a few dark beers once and didn't like 'em...too bitter.

As far as bottled beers go my favs not really being much of a beer drinker are Shipyard's Pumpkinhead and Wachusett Blueberry.

Blueberry beers are god damn delicious.

Yup, especially when they are from the tap with blueberries in it unlike the bottle

My all time favorite beer though is Watermelon beer from Beer Works, but that's a tap only seasonal beer and i've never seen any company that bottles watermelon beer.

Scottish beers are my favorite, but the hardest to find at a restaurant. Therefore, the Black Stuff.
