When I lived in NYC in the early 1980s, I went to one of the last Automats. It was on 42nd street, a few blocks down from Grand Central.

They still have them in Amsterdam (at least they did, in the late 1980s); I wasn't terribly impressed. Maybe that's because it was weird Indo-Dutch fast food, and I had no idea what to order.

Maybe just incorporate them into current fast food chains, so that way people know what they are getting (brand name mentality and all that).
