Tomorrow I will be taking off for a vacation to Peru with my new fiancée. Why am I telling you all? I don't know, I just can't hold my excitement. I don't know how I'm going to make it through my last 8 hours of work with any reasonable level of productivity. We'll be gone for 9 full days, hoping to see as much of the country as we can. If anyone's interested, I'll do a blog type of thing here with this thread. I'm hoping to have at least some sort of internet connection every couple or few days with Wifi on my phone. If not, maybe I can find an internet cafe. I'm getting super excited though.

We did suffer a little disappointment earlier in the month when we learned of the mudslides that hit the Machu Picchu area. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be able to do that due to the damaged railways. However, Peru still has a ton of great places to see. There are three or four different climates (depending how you want to classify them) just in the one country: desert, rainforest, beach, and mountains (The Andes). So you can go to the beach, to the desert, to the amazon, skiing in one trip, if you really wanted to. To me, that's incredible to think about, for all of that to be in one country. Our new plan is to check out the coastline, the desert regions (you'll see why later), the Amazon river, and the capital of Lima, as well as a few surrounding areas.

Last year my fiancée, girlfriend at the time, went to Costa Rica for about the same period of time. This year, we decided to do something really different and go to another hemisphere. I hope I come back in one piece. I may even do para-gliding, if I muster up the courage/stupidity.

Also, if I can see this bird when I'm there, I'll consider the trip a success:

You can only imagine my disappointment when I'd already bought the $630/per non-refundable tickets, with intentions on proposing AT Machu Picchu. I'm still going to make it into a good time though. We're going to be flying over the Nasca lines, which should be neat.

So our trip started out kind of crazy. Upon arriving at the airport in Chicago, we learned that there was a massive 8.8 earthquake just south of Peru, in Chile. With the threat of a tsunami, we were really beginning to worry about our trip. First Machu Picchu gets hit with mudslides, and then a massive earthquake.

As it turned out, everything is fine. We flew into Miami for our connecting flight. To kill some time during the eight hour layover, we journied to South Beach and ate at an Argentine restaurant. Later, we got a little tipsy at the bar and hurried back to the flight. The five and a half hour flight flew by, no pun intended. We slept the entire way.

Upon arriving in Lima at six in the morning, we realized we would need to wait until 1pm to check into our hotel. We then grabbed some food at a local outdoor restaurant and caught a taxi to show us around the city. We toured the Museo e Iglesia de San Francisco, which was awesome. Unfortunately, they dont allow photos inside. It was amazingly beautiful architecture.

Tonight, we went out to eat at a fancy, authentic Peruvian restaurant that featured live entertainment and a spiral staircase. I was a little worried what our bill was going to look like before I found out the price midway through the meal. It turned out to be a pretty good price for the quality of meal and entertainment.

Tomorrow we head to Nasca to fly over the Nasca lines. I may have some pictures to post by Thursday, as the hotel has available computers.

I didn´t find access to computers as much as I would´ve liked throughout the trip, so I couldn´t update this regularly. I will have some great pictures to post when I get back home Tuesday. It´s been a blast. We´ve been all over this country, trying all kinds of things. My flight leaves late tomorrow night, and boy am I ready to get back to some American food and my own bed!

So I finally got a chance to upload pictures onto the computer. I'll post a few of them to give you a taste of the fun! I'm uploading some more to photobucket. I forgot to lower the resolution on the pictures, so I can't upload most of them until I crop them. By the way, I didn't see the Penis-headed bird.

Looks like a fun time.

They recommended it due to snakes and crocs, but I never saw anything. It was more just for fun.

Kirra- You can't see any of the pictures, or just certain ones?

I'm betting photobucket is blocked at her work.
