Many artists want to express their patriotism, and Mike Wilkins chose personalized license plates to spell out the Preamble to the constitution in license plate shorthand. He contacted the state transportation officials of all 50 states and the District of Columbia to acquire them. After over a year of red tape he was able to come up with this creative homage to America. His project was thrown into limbo when a prison disturbance in New Mexico caused a temporary shutdown of the state's license plate shop, and it was delayed by Minnesota when the plate he ordered for the last half of common and the first half of defense (UN DE) was considered inappropriate. (Too much like undie). Nevertheless, he was able to acquire them all, and the above picture is the result. Notice how they are in alphabetical order and how he has abbreviated, condensed, split and substituted numbers for some of the words.
