What would you think of something a bit more like the Roman system of citizenship? Not with respect to citizenship itself, but as far as federal suffrage is concerned. That is, assuming that a person met all of the requirements for citizenship (or maybe just "natural" citizens), they could buy the ability to vote for federal offices at a price determined by...something. I'm not quite sure what you'd tie it to, but you get the idea. To make it more comparable to owning a business, etc., I suppose it would need to have an upkeep associated with it, too.

I don't like it. That would be the equivalent of a poll tax, and would give just cause to Bery's fears. The notion is the the franchise should be held by those with a stake in government, not by those who can afford to purchase the privilege of voting.

True, but I did get to vote for a congressman and 2 senators to represent my interests in the law proposed. (All of whom voted "No", I might add). I did not get the result I wanted (No one ever gets all that they want, 100% of the time, as far as I can tell), but I had a voice.

You'd deny me even that much, unless I behaved in a way you approve of.

And this is my final word. Say whatever else you care to, I am not even coming back to read this thread further. But keep tap-dancing if y'all must.
