I have found a pretty good web host, a friend of mine really likes them, and they have a free option which I will use for a while. But they have no web design suite like tripod or homestead or several other sites. I thought I had a legitimate version of FrontPage, but as it turns out I do not even have an illegitimate version right now; nor am I going to look for one. I used to have Dreamweaver, but I hated it.

Does anyone have a nice WYSIWYG web design suite they can recommend? Not pirated but Free would be ideal. I have seen some program called KompoZer; but no one seems to know much about it. Please help, I am so lost.

what kind of monthly bandwidth do they allow? or how much storage space?

The site my friend referred me to has 200Mb of storage, and provides up to 5Gb of bandwidth per month, on their free package. much higher on the paid packages.

what about a wiki-type thing? Are there any of those that are available and mostly free hosted?

I think Rori has a wiki for his campaign.

Check with your hosting company, but generally wikis are fairly simple to set up, as long as somebody has got the SQL backend up and running.

If you want to do a wiki of some kind, by *far* the easiest solution is to set one up with Wikia. It's free, and I know that there's some way to configure alternate domain names. They do it with wowwiki.com, for instance. wow.wikia.com is the actual wikia site name, but it redirects to wowwiki.com.

Edit: In other words, Say you set up "darksiege.wikia.com". If you have your own domain, "darksiege.com", you could then create an A record in DNS for "wiki.darksiege.com", which would point to the same IP as "darksiege.wikia.com", then configure wikia to recognize HTTP requests for resources in "wiki.darksiege.com".

web host: check
domain name registered: check
web page TO host: doh; still working on that one.

I plan to have a two subdomains on this thing. One for a family website and one for my game.

The registered domain is www.gedeniled.com if anyone gives a crap.

More info will follow.

For the DNS stuff, I would suggest afraid.org or dyndns.com.

dyndns is the more well known but I've found afraid.org to be decent and a little easier to use.

well if I got any more basic... I would have had to draw this stuff on an etch a sketch...

http://www.geldeniled.com/

I am running into one issue; maybe someone could point me in the right direction...

If I try and copy/paste the document divine influences onto the site; my Navigation bars end up somewhere close to the middle of next tuesday... but I cannot figure out how to embed the document. Anyone have any ideas how I could accomplish the embed or putting the file into the page without moving the nav bar?

I don't know. Pasting from .doc to your editor is probably a Bad Idea(TM) because there's no telling what kind of crazy malformed HTML and CSS Word will generate. But even if their HTML+CSS is perfectly well-formed, it's still likely to cause trouble because word will almost certainly apply styles directly to the HTML elements instead of keeping them in a separate <style> section.

Situations like what you're trying to do are basically the entire reason that W3C (tried) to split content (HTML) from styling (CSS). Used judiciously, it makes it a lot easier to copy and move content around between pages with disparate styles without utterly horking the formatting.

Unfortunately, it's pretty difficult (mpossible?) to diagnose what's going wrong if you don't know at least some basic HTML and CSS. There's some decent beginner-oriented material on the subject here:

What Stathol said.

Looking at the document, I think I'd try creating a single style sheet and then applying the text. This would allow for multiple pages, speeding loading of individual pages, formatted identically. This way you can also create an area on each page to hold the notes and sphere listing.

This book would make it easy to find what you're trying to do and explain it in a way anyone can understand.

okay.. I now have a wiki: geldeniled.wikia.com

I am fuzzy on the DNS stuff though, unsure if I even need it really.

No one would be able to find your site without a DNS.

I know that part; but if I am thinking more of the scenario of:

Probably not necessary to register a domain and point DNS at it. It's just a matter of convenience really. If you think it will make it more convenient/easier for people to find your site, then go for it, otherwise, if you can live with just linking to the wiki page page, don't bother with it.
