Objective facts are those in which there is no room for interpretation. Based on the ways that humans observe and interact with the world, by definition most "objective facts" are in actuality opinion, supported by data, filtered by a persons background and experiences. That is to say, tainted by bias.

But what does that mean, facts without context are meaningless. The atomic mass of Helium is 4.002602... so? How is mass measured? In comparison to something else no?

For the purposes of this discussion assume that by objective facts, I mean absolute truth, regardless of varied human interpretations.

Well, as I don't believe in an omnicient being or god, then I change my statement to "there are no objective facts".

If it is fact that morality is a human construct, you are correct. If it is fact that morality is not a human construct, you are incorrect.

Saddly, this fact is unknowable.

If he is omnipotent, then you are part of him, and thus your opinion is part of this objective morality, and it becomes subjective based on different people.

Your belief does not fact make. Regardless of wether you, Talya, or myself believe something is true has no bearing on wether the thing is true of not.

That would depend on if you knew his intentions or not.

Heh, that is exactly my point. Even the measuring method has bias in it, because it makes assumptions that may or may not be "true". "Truth" is an evolving thing, it's not concrete or static. It's fluid and ever changing, sometimes only by a little bit, but still always changing.

I disagree, entirely.

I find that fact amusing, in itself.

Anyway, you cannot objectively prove the idea that a God-being's morality is more correct than a serial killer's morality. You can possibly prove one morality provides more advantageous results, but you cannot prove it is more correct.

Exactly, nor do anyone's. In the end, we're all just pissing in the wind and guessing. Many are "educated" guesses, but guesses just the same.

I did not say I could prove it. I simply stated there are unknowable objective facts. A correct and an incorrect.

Seems like there can be all sorts of facts, and by definition a fact must be correct.

Maybe it's a fact that morality is like having a favorite color.

Technically that would be, "Might creates right".

Possibly. But again, that would be subject to an unknowable objective fact.

Rynar, I don't think facts are what you are talking about. They're subjective or objective, but they're always knowable and always correct or else they're not facts.

Assume, for the purposes of this thread, that by fact I mean "something that is objectively true". Not all things that are objectively true are knowable.

ok... except for the last part. Truth requires knowledge. It's a chicken and egg thing, by definition. Subjective truths are truths sometimes, objective truths are truths all the time.

What is an objective truth? Everything we consider a fact is based upon a label or definition we have applied to it. Just because everyone agrees with the prevalent accepted notion doesn't make it fact. Even mathematics is not factual. The area within a circle is finite but we can't measure it accurately, we can only get close enough with pi.
