Ok this is just cool. I wish I could work these programs this well:

Also reminds me how freaking brilliant Bruce Hornsby is as a pianist.

That reminds me of old player piano scrolls.

Also of the drums in music boxes.

FYI, that tool is called "Piano Roll" and is included in many programs such as Fruity Loops, Propellerhead, REASON, Ableton etc.

It's used to construct samples from the ground up using digital synthesizers. The funny part is that most digital synthesizer try to mimic analog units by creating an analog rack like GUI whereby you can drag and drop 1/4" stereo cables to create custom patches of whatever filter plug-ins you can find.

The nuschool always wants to be old school.

Yeah cause the old analog synths were easy to use and had a knob for each function.

Then, for some reason, the 80's came along and knobs went the way of the dodo and people thought it was a better idea to dive into 87 different submenus to select an option on a tiny LCD screen instead of reaching over and grabbing a knob.

I pretty much refuse to use gear that doesn't have a dedicated knob for each function. I love my Nord Lead 2X =)
