I appreciate the elaboration, Coro, but I guess I just don't get the difficulty in understanding Heckfire's intended culture. Basically, it's easy to get heated when discussing controversial topics, particularly on the internet, so Heckfire's separate existence serves as a reminder to keep our cool there, and the mods will step in when we fail to do so. Of course it'll be semi-arbitrary and subjective, because this isn't a formal debating society and the mods are only human, but they do their best to be fair and reasonable. And hey, I say that as one of the few people so far who actually did lose my sh*t in Heckfire and got dinged for it! :D

Not trying to be a suck-up to the mods or anything, but I really just can't wrap my head around the objections. *shrug*

Except, the entire **** problem is that the bolded portion doesn't happen.

It's bullshit, in its entirety. For example, Micheal broke the rules in a thread I just read in Heckfire! and directly insulted Elmo. No moderator has "stepped in." Why? Well, first of all, a moderator violated the rules, so it must be ok. Second, because they're only responding to reports, I'm sure, just as we were when I was a mod. Third, and lastly, because nobody has reported it because reporting things gets you a formal warning from Dash.

Furthermore, having subjective rules being "ok" is absolutely retarded. Find me another community discussion forum that has rules that are wholly subjective. I find it unlikely for you to find one. Biased forums and/or forum rules? Sure. Subjective ones? No way.

Know why? It drives people away from the community.

Taskiss:

Your continuing personal insults aside, I have no issue being ruled against by the moderation. What I have an issue with is continuing to feel offended by your behavior and having nothing done about it, so I continued to report you each time it seemed you were violating the rules, as they were separate infractions. Thus, 3 total reports, plus one from you, for a total of 4. Considering I'm sure each of those was on a separate post, the idea that its spamming reports, whining to the moderator by either party, or abusing the moderation staff in some way is ludicrous and stupid.

I'm sure you gave solid reasoning in your report, as I felt I did in each of mine. Had Dash, or any other moderator, said something akin to "I disagree that these are violations" that would have been fine, and I'd have made my dialogue in Heckfire! more coarse in response to perceived insults to reflect what I felt was coarse dialogue.

Instead, Dash decides that people reporting things is bad, something he's done before, and goes off like a cock. Fair enough, but nobody should expect me, or anybody, to be treated like that and not be pissed off about it.

I haven't been on the forum for the better part of the week because of this thing, and while I'm sure some of you people think I'm a dick and don't care if I phase myself out, I'm finding it harder to return the longer I'm gone because of the rampant stupidity of the policy here.

Bull. Mods get called in and moderate, they get slammed. They don't get called in, they still get slammed. They get slammed either way and I wouldn't be a mod for all the tea in China.

People want mods to be their bodyguard. Or ... philosophy-guard, whatever. Go figure.

The truth hurts, but that doesn't make it an insult. Grow up and grow a pair or don't play with the older kids. ... OR, get a life and don't post anymore. You should try it for more than a week. It's actually a refreshing experience and helps to align priorities.

That might be a good point if mods were drafted instead of volunteers ;)

Because I never read it, and never saw a report. I action what reports I see as I have time to do so, no matter how silly or frivolous. (That action may be as simple as notifying the reporter that I see nothing wrong with the reported post.) I also don't give people warnings for using the report button, no matter how ridiculous the report might seem.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case universally. I'm one person, and spend far less time here than people think. It may be true that reporting it would result in someone else closing it and issuing you a warning. It wouldn't be me that did so.

I think the basic argument is this:

Either give well defined rules, moderate by them, and don't penalize people for reporting OR don't moderate and let us use the ignore button.

IMO, people should never be warned for using the report button- after all, the mods continually say that they can't see a problem if it isn't reported.

Most people here are ok with no moderation (+ignore feature), but if there is going to be moderation it needs to be well defined, and consistent.

My 2cp, at least.

You continue to fail to be able to have reasonable discourse I see.

See, here's the thing, you don't know what you're talking about because 1) you're not me, 2) you don't really know me, and 3) you haven't been a moderator. Having been one, the whole "people will **** on you no matter what you do" excuse is horseshit and exactly that: an excuse. I found very few people take issue with moderatory actions I took, and those that did were people that had a problem with rules in the first place. They didn't like that I was actually enforcing those rules, not that anything I did was particularly offensive.

Being an old **** doesn't make you smarter or wiser than anybody else Taskiss, actually being smarter or wiser does.

Bull, DFK! You're just being whiny.

I have no problem discussing stuff with you, but the bullshit "That's an insult!" crap is annoying, Your whiny bull then annoyed a mod and he warned you... because whines are freaking annoying. You didn't break any rules, you just pissed someone else off with the crap.

Now, you can learn something about yourself or refuse, your choice. If you just go away thinking I'm an *******, well, get a grip. You think I don't know that there are folks that think I'm an *******? I can't stand childish crap and I speak out against it. I tolerate 3 kids in this world, and I'm not going to get my britches in a bunch because you think you should get an exemption from that rule. And, being a kid isn't a function of age. My attitude about that (and other things) pisses some folks off. It tickles others, and some just don't give a damn one way or the other. I'm not feeling enough pressure to change from the people I love and respect, and those I don't just need to get over themselves 'cause their chances at changing me are slim to none. Best bet you have at changing me is to earn my respect, but I don't see you caring enough to do that, so I'm thinking it's not going to happen.

Grow up and grow a pair, put me on ignore, stalk me in every thread, pull a hissy fit and leave mad.... I don't care. That's up to you. I'm not pissed, quite frankly you didn't do anything to piss me off... you were just being annoying. I have the same choices you do. I have no plans on ignoring you, I'll continue having discussions same as always, and if there's something I feel needs to be said, I'll say it. I'm not looking to piss you off and I don't have a hard-on about proving anything, I'm pretty much just going to try to get along when I can and use ignore when I can't.

And that's all I have to say on the matter.
