When I was growing up In California, my back yard was the Pacific Ocean. We had a big ol' tom cat who was simply named "The Boy", I remember being two or three years old, and watching the cat walk down the jetty, perch himself on the end, and wait... perfectly motionless. When he was able to lull the gulls into coming close enough, he would spring several feet into the air, lock onto the bird, and drag it underwater with him. Every time, without fail, he would swim himself to shore dragging a dead gull. I've never seen anything like it since.

That's a seagull. I'm talking about the idiots who claim their cat can "beat up" a German Shephard, Doberman, Rottweiler, or even a Pit Bull.

It's mainly the biarre inferiority complex cat owners seem to have about dogs. Ok, you like cats. We get it. Unless you own a **** Tiger, however, it's not tougher than a 95 pound dog, or even a 65 pound one. Lose the complex about it already.

In any case though, the picture I posted is also probably the most widely applicable demotivator of all time.

I know everyone thinks big arse dogs should be able to kill a cat... however it totally depends on the training of said dog hehe.

We have a neighbourhood cat that survives on stealing food from dogs around here. Ever since my rotty was a baby (starting at 8 weeks and hand sized), the cat use to walk up, get all cat crazy on it ninja style and proceed to eat stuff out of his bowl. Been taught from a young age that cats are all psycho, the now 100 pound, evil look rotty still refuses to go near cats for fear of been scratched (he had a bleeding scratch on his nose from getting too curious).

I don't know if a cat will really beat him up now, but I know he's not gonna try it.

The big fat evil cat got run over about 2 years ago... >.< he's had a really good life though and kept the mice away (and from noises, lots of sex)... we actually kinda miss him.

That's the point. It depends on the dog, not the cat. That Rottweiler is afraid of the cat because it got conditioned that way at a young age.

If you picked some other Rottweiler and replaced the one in question you'd end up with a very different result.

However, cat owners seem to ahve this inferiority complex about dog owners, and love to brag that because their cats terrorizes some dog that was conditioned as a puppy, or some fairly small breed, that it's some Chuck Norris among cats.

It's really annoying too, because it tends to come up when pets come up in general. If you say you own a dog around one of these folks you'll be treated to an uncolicited lecture on how his cat is tougher than your dog.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I've seen a 20 lb cat kill an overly aggressive 65 lb Rottweiler before.
