You're right, its not going to go anywhere, but its hard not to say something when I'm so angry. I just spent an entire week putting my heart and soul and loooong hours into a musical production that was a re-enactment of this man's death...its very real to me not just something that happened 2000 years ago. I believe this man died for me.
Why would someone say such awful things? Why not just leave it alone? Unless, of course, they knew exactly what they were doing and enjoyed saying things like that just to be mean.

Talya: how about "If its not important to me, but obviously is to someone else, I don't comment on the post." That would be the decent thing to do....you weren't adding ANYTHING to the conversation, just trying to make sure you got your jab in there.

In that case, it wasn't necessary to post the initial joke at all. This was not a tactful approach at all. The tactful approach would have been to simply let it go rather than needing to show off how "cool" you re yet again in a thread about Christianity.

Personally, I'd like to see this play out. I make it a point not to say anything snide when other people post threads celebrating their various holidays, like the ones Taamar posts from time to time. I don't understand why the same courtesy can't be given Christians on their threads. Since I mentioned her name above, I will say I don't fault Taamar for this at all.

As Kate pointed out, this is a big deal to some of us in a way that goes beyond simple tradition. Personally, I would appreciate it if those that aren't celebrating or offering well-wishes would stay out and take their comments/jokes to a different thread.
