Interesting. Further reason to argue that Resurrection Sunday and Easter should be separated as holidays.

Thanks for the link.

Alright, knock off the poor persecuted Christians ****.

We had the single most evangelistic member of the board post a thread titled, "He is risen." Everyone else dogpiled on and proceeded to "Yay Jesus!" themselves straight to the Pearly Gates. Nobody wants to acknowledge it, but the ramming of religious beliefs down the throats of others was well taken care of before Riov posted anything, and certainly long before Taly got involved.

Now I know everyone was just celebrating how they're all Saved because of one day out of the year that's determined by phases of the moon. Knock yourselves out. It's your most important holiday. Get on with your bad selves. But this grumbling about inconsiderate jackasses ramming their religious beliefs down other people's throats? What do you think that initial thread was doing?

I'll tell you: None of you stopped to think. You never considered it, and that's what "inconsiderate" means.

Many of the Christian holidays took elements from the pagan holidays.

Isn't it fantastic that, upon discovering that religious thread gets trashed and sent to hellfire, the immediate response is to start ANOTHER thread to trash and send to hellfire?

We will always have someone who says 'I believe this strongly, so I have a right to say it'. We will always have people who believe that their opinion has a right to protection from dissent. We will always have a******s who stomp their foot and complain that they are being persecuted.

In the end you can't control anyone's behaviour but your own. This board could use a lot more of that.

On a previous incarnation of this board Shelgeyr started a thread complaining about a an accident he was he. He got a lot of responses calling him an idiot. The thread devolved. And when he complained about it he was told "When you post a thread you don't get to specify what kind of response you get. This is a public forum". There was no reference to Christianity in that thread, just a sensitive ponytail guy and a bunch of people defending their right to kick him when he was down.

So the question is: knowing that we have jerks on this board, does the thread starter have the right to specify what types of posts will be allowed?

Did you have the option not to click the thread?

I realize that many hold their religious beliefs close and don't like to be pestered about them or made fun of or anything else, but at this point isn't it just expected on this board? I can't remember there ever being a religious based thread (particularly Christianity based) that didn't have one or two of the usual suspects come in and ruin it.

Everyone knows who those people are, and everyone knows they'll jump in the thread and make an inappropriate comment at some point. Can't we just ignore them in those threads and move on? No need to make a big deal about it every time it happens, just stop paying attention to their posts in those threads if you don't like what they have to say.

All you're doing at this point is feeding the trolls.

Well you're making it sound formalized. Do people have the right to expect others not to be douchenozzles? yeah i think that's pretty fair and a low bar to set for a General forum. Especially one with a long history of pretty familiar posters.

Will it happen? Well clearly not in this case anyway. The problem really is that everyone sincerely thinks they are right. Corolinth is under siege by the title of this post itself. Riov is trying to protect the children. Taly thinks she's being funny or scoring points with whomever for tweaking whomever else. We have a couple of people incensed that anyone complained about it at all and is playing the victim. Meahwhile all I see is a standard happy Easter post and people wanting to get their 2 cents in it for some reason.

Coro - too bad, man. Nobody's shoving anything down your throat, quite your crying. Suck it up and deal with the fact that folks may want to celebrate their holiday.

The way I see that thread going down is equivalent to "Happy Birthday" and someone submitting a "aw, Birthdays suck". It's obnoxious and rude.

Now you're basically suggesting that the initial Happy Birthday was justifiably offensive to the anti-birthday crowd.

Suck it up. If you don't want to celebrate, move along. You don't need to cry about it or dump on the celebration.

Certainly not, but on the flip side, he'll get to respond to the jerks. There's certainly no free pass to be a jerk. If you want to act like a tool, don't cry when you're called on it.

This. You see the thread titles, just like everyone else does. No one's forcing you to click it, much less read it. Creating a post that you don't want to read and do not even have to click to open it isn't "Ramming my religious belief down your throat." Jumping into said thread, that could have easily just been ignored, and accusing Christians of brainwashing their children and making very poor attempts at humor is very much closer to "ramming your beliefs down others throats," actually.

Those of you who saw the thread in question as merely a "Happy Easter" posting are very charitable, and should be commended.

Those of you espousing the viewpoint that anyone disagreeing with the sentiments expressed therein were free to skip over the thread are also correct, but one wonders why you are finding it necessary to ignore that advice now.

I find it interesting telling that Kaffis's post here is being ignored.

I don't. It's two pages back, and wow, look at all those words. Also, his post raises disturbing points that some would rather not think about, in order to preserve a clear conscience.

Would you prefer "telling" over "interesting" as a descriptor?

Yeah, he made a great post that is being shoved in the corner.

Except the premise of the Kaffis post is flawed to begin with. He quoted rules that don't apply.

As well as the known fact that none of the "offensive" posts were reported. The mods aren't mind readers.

In the almost 2 years that I've been around here, I think I've reported something once and I don't even remember what it was. This is the second time that something has made me mad enough to really say something about it. For the most part, I really don't see the point in tattling on other people. It's never worked for me before so why start now.
I just really do not understand the big deal about saying "I love Jesus" in a thread for just such a purpose without someone coming in and being hateful. Do I run all over the Glade spewing evangelism? No, I don't.
I also seem to recall starting a thread about spirituality and pagan things last year and not a single person had anything hateful to say in there. In fact, most people contributed in a pretty good discussion from what I remember...so I know it's possible to talk about religious and spiritual beliefs without having a fight.
That being said, I think the original problem is there are a couple of people here who just really seem to have it out for Jesus and anyone who talks about him. Every time the word Jesus comes up in a thread, there is a fight.
What's up with that?

Ah, I see where I went wrong. I have once again overestimated the reading comprehension skills of the rest of this board. That was my fault. I know better.

You, because you fail to read anything beyond that which you dearly wish to read, have misunderstood what I meant. I will elaborate. I am not complaining about inconsiderate Christians ramming their religious beliefs down my throat. I am calling you all stupid and hypocritical jackasses. I have vain hopes for humanity that they can learn from their mistakes if they are called out on them. My hopes are once again dashed.

Here is the chain of events.

1) Easter Sunday, I notice a thread that is a very thinly-veiled attempt by our resident evangelist to evangelize his little Christian heart out.

2) I assume Christians are happy evangelizing, yaying God, and praising Jesus.

3) ohn0z! The Talygrinch stole Easter!

4) Wednesday morning, I see another thread that looks to be four pages of Bery whining about what happened to his thinly-veiled attempt to evangelize.

5) I click the thread and discover I am correct.

6) I click the other thread to verify that my previous assumption was indeed correct. It was.

Now, I notice a lot of people whining about inconsiderate assholes. The fact that Christians represent a substantial portion of the board's population does not mean they are any less inconsiderate when they make threads whose sole purpose is to evangelize. Multiple Christians on this board (one of whom is the progenitor of the thread) have stated on multiple occasions that the purpose of the Christian is to sing His Praises. So while someone could tell me that the thread we're all ***** about was merely intended to celebrate Easter, they would either be incorrect or outright lying.

When your pastor tells you that you should act like Christ, he means the Christ that showed the world the best humanity had to offer, not the Christ who ran around holding up the holes in his hands and feeding everyone a guilt trip about how he had to suffer for crimes someone else committed.

Coro, you are being a **** idiot. But then, I guess if someone values reading their own font more than being tactful, and is driven more by narcissism than decency and respect I suppose you have a point.

That's a little melodramatic, Coro. And really, why does it matter to you anyway? Why can the christians not have one thread to say yay Jesus without people freaking out and being mean?
Tell me Coro, at what point, at what place, and under what circumstances on the glade am I allowed to talk about Jesus without offending someone?

He isn't offended. He just feels the need to make everything about himself, and if feigning offense helps him achieve that, then it's exactly what he'll do. See, LK, it isn't about the thread, or Jesus, or religion, or anything else. It's about Coro's ego.

Well, there are plenty of things in this world worth fighting for...maybe Coro would be really good at being a cancer activist or something. Put all that angst and ego to good use for a good cause. Raise awareness for something constructive.
