I stated my feelings and fears. In fact, I was quite careful to state "I feel' and 'it seems to me'. I have concern that certain topics will be treated as sacred, and still greater concern that it will be only one agenda represented.

Your concerns are absurd. Asking for Taly's removal as a moderator becuase she finds it necessary to troll is not any call for only "one agenda to be represented" if there were any unified "Christian agenda", which there isn't. The remaining people would be Mookhow, Dash, Michael, and Lenas, truly a group of rabid Christian fanatics. Simply putting "I feel" or "it seems to me" alongside something patently ridiculous does not immunize it from cricticism.

Furthermore, no one is calling for any topic to be treated as sacred. The call is to not troll people's celebratory threads appropriately posted in General, and keep the **** debate in the debate forums. Your "fears" are representative of the same "fears of some strawman mean ole Christian coming to impose unspecified things on you, in much the way Monty used to express "fears" that were really just a refelection of his personal issues with things he didn't believe; your reasons for having such fears notwithstanding.

I want to comment on this, actually--just to point out (without malice) that I have a diametrically opposed view to Taamar's.

Religion may have served some evolutionary purpose at some point. It probably did, actually, providing structure and education for developing protohumans, giving explanations to developing intellects that wanted to understand more deeply the world around them when there were no such answers to find. At some point, it outlived its purpose. Religion hasn't been a benefit to humanity for a very, very long time. Quite the opposite, actually. It's a vestigial social organ that has been holding it back. At best it acts as a drug that let's people hide from the issues around them. At worst it causes the issues itself.

Made moot by the fact that Taly isn't a mod anymore (not sure when that happened, I don't pay much attention)... the 'agenda' is to disallow anything' not-OK' as defined by a group of people whose definition of 'not-OK' we don't get. Many non-Christians really don't know what will and won't be considered a problem. Taly's erection joke struck me as funny, even if some of her later commentary was totally out of line. I've always been entertained by the fact that Jesus is generally depicted as a smoldering hottie, and in Italian culture his penis is just as sacred as the rest of him. (Seriously, Il Santo Membro. Flowers sprung up where he ejaculated. They have a celebration where they run down the street with massive dildo. WTF?)



The reason for my fears? I don't know any Christians who have had their houses burned for asking for their own prayer in dominantly pagan town halls. I don't know any who have come home to find their cats gutted for not showing up in church and repenting. I don't know Christians in this country who have been physically attacked for asking for religious tolerance. I know pagans who have had all of this happen. I've been called terrible things for daring to wear my pentagram openly. I get people at my door all the time who back away with fear when I tell them "No thank you, your church sounds lovely, but I'm pagan." Every day people treat 'God bless' like it's a standard greeting but are offended when I respond 'Blessed be'. There are a lot of people who use 'Christianity' as a reason to be pricks (the pagans who do this are generally focused on sex, not agression). I don't want their hatred protected.

Once upon a time Christians were thrown to the lions. I'm concerned that lately they appear to be emulating them as a means not to be victimized.

The Glade is not a witches circle, it's not a place to sit around a campfire and sing kumbaya, and it's not a bible class.

It's a place where ideas are exchanged. Some ideas that are exchanged are comfortable... and some are totally uncomfortable, but they're all here and by starting a thread, each and every thought written down is subject to the scrutiny of all the other thoughts roiling around in the minds of all the other folks here. For the most part, the reactions aren't disruptive, but sometimes some deep seated beliefs are challenged and the reactions are intense.

That's the price of admission. I'm willing to pay that price, as I believe most are.

Sometimes some folks are just too freaking idiotic to be tolerated. Things flare up then. Sometimes, a personality comes along that feeds from the intensity of particular reactions. They manipulate situations for their own gratification, to fulfill some personal need. They don't come to exchange ideas, they come with an agenda and use people to achieve it. Beware folks with an agenda. Some are **** evil. There aren't many here that go that route, but some have... and some have gone so far that the folks here have driven them out. I think that's as it should be. I also think there's no one making me visit and if I wanted to leave - for whatever reason - I could leave with no regrets. Then again, there are folks here who, even though I don't really know them... I miss, especially when I learn they're gone so far I'll never be able to tell them about those times they made me smile and laugh. Even if I am sure they never really liked me... there was something in them I liked. Oh well, telle est la vie.

So, now it's the aftermath of one of those intense episodes. Someone else was the architect and the goal was achieved. They're not here to reap their reward, and for that I'm happy... but some emotions are still high ... some barriers we erected out of respect to others are down, and things are being said. Personalities are rubbing against each other and passions are exposed.

This is still the same place though - a place to exchange ideas. It's a shame that some tried to use this place to make themselves feel bigger... a place they felt they could expose others to derision for their gratification... it's been done before and will probably be done again.

SO, no, your deepest beliefs aren't safe here. Folks may get a hard on about you and fill your thread about making quilts with razor sharp turds. It happens. Use ignore. Personally, it's not the turds that get slung at me that irritate me the most, it's the turds slung at folks I've come to respect that cause me to go apeshit on someone's ***. Go figure.
