Are all of our Apple cultists too busy meditating with their new toys to post about it ?

I'm holding out for the 3G-enabled model at the end of the month.

I still don't get it.
Maybe if I try one. About the only thing that excites me is its potential as a comic reader, but my local library stocks graphic novels and iPhone comics are expensive at 2.99$ a pop. Combine that with a 500$ reader and... well, why?

I have held it and stroked it but it was not mine to meditate upon.

I sought to eradicate desire and achieve nirvana.

Instead, I am now painfully aware of grunge and Courtney Love.

Its partly an artifact of the UK prices being established when the Dollar<->Pound exchange rate was different, I think, and partly companies experimenting with pricing. Some are 99c (59p), but they tend to be short, indie comics. Longer content marvel and big name stuff tends to be 1.99+, and I can *easily* read a 30 issue series in an afternoon. I read all of the Captain America ones up to the point the Shield lady shot him when unable to sleep in Bangalore at one point ;-p

It's interesting enough for me. But at the moment, I don't have the money to throw around on what would really be an expensive toy. If I had plenty of extra cash, I'd totally get one. But I suppose I'll just have to wait.

However, the footage of some guy playing Crisis on his iPad has certainly piqued my interest.

I would buy it if it had stylus/handwriting support.

It would be fun to play with, and I would use it a lot for reading/annotating papers.

As is, however... I'll wait for the Courier.

Courier...wow. Thanks for that Neph; I didn't know it was in the works.

Yeah, at this point the courier makes the iPad look like a joke, hopefully it's not too far out.

I don't get iPad's really, but those that like them I hope they are everything you wanted.

I'd be sceptical of an unreleased product making a released product look like a joke, in general. A lot of usability is in the detail of implementation... Win6 sounds better than many competing systems, as did WebOS for palm, etc, but they're having they're lunch eaten for not being quite successful enough at what they do to be sufficiently usable for a sufficiently large number of people.

I still don't understand how the iPad is anything more than a glorified iPhone without the phone. And its a lot bigger so you can't tote it around in your pocket.
Also, how do you protect such a large screen? The logistics of that bother me too. With a laptop you can just close it which takes all of 2 seconds. With the iPad you'd have to take it in and out of a case constantly.
Does any of us actually have one?

At first I thought I'd never want one.

Then I thought about just how much time I spend just consuming content.

$800 isn't all that much, if the 3G contract works as advertised.

Ooh, shiny!

I'll wait at least six months to see how they're working out and wait for the inevitable Apple post-release price drop.

I wasn't interested the last time people got all excited about tablet PCs, and that hasn't noticeably changed now ;)

The best place for me to read is in a hot tub - the iPad won't replace books any time soon for me!
