PS--If you decide to use this recipe, you must refer to it as "Impromptu White People Hunan Sauce."
Very important. Don't forget it.

We could try other names for it, as long as some honorary attribution is made. How about "Katie Raids the Fridge Hunan Sauce?"

Just stick your boot up his rear and hold it there for awhile. Ultimate punishment for Screeling.

For extra flavor, dip it in salt and msg before you do.

I don't personally like the packaged flavours asian food tend to move towards... blending the flavours so none are prominant to cater to the more western palette.

pushing the boundaries of spicy, sweet, salty and sour while giving them interesting twists and still making them yummy is what authentic chinese food is really about.

I could go for that. Many creative and tasty things have been made from me raiding the fridge and working with what I have.
Huh. Where's Arafys when you need him? Someone tell him to go start a game called "Raiding the fridge." Post a list of the contents of your fridge and then see who can come up with the most creative recipes....that would be fun I think.

Check out my post (the last one - Threadkiller!) in the "What did you have for dinner?" thread. I was rather pleased with what I created.

Lies. It's about selling as much lethargic inducing food as possible to Westerners to better position the Chinese for global takeover.

Lol, that's what we call it too.
Try asking for "rooster sauce" at the store...

I am utterly addicted to bun cha and nuoc cham. Vietnamese is my favourite of the asian cuisines.

<3 Sriracha ... it's the bomb. However, I like the spicy garlic minced onion pickled spread too.

You've been to Vietnam? That's cool. I have two brothers from there but I've never been there...I used to watch their vietnamese movies with them even though I didn't understand a word. It looked like a beautiful place.

I could have gone, but I would have had to enlist. I was born on a luckier day than those my age who did. The draft and the war were pretty much over by the time I would have been drafted.

No, no, it's just the four, plus Umami. Western cultures just go for the first four, while Asian (and especially Japanese) add "savory." I'd always read that Westerners were never entirely convinced that savory is anything unique.

As usual, Wikipedia goes into way too much detail on this subject, and my eyes start to glaze over.

Barenak3d Ladies go into this a bit on Snacktime (very creative kids' CD) with a tune called Food Party...
Food party, food party
Food party, food party
Food party, food party
Food party, food party party tonight yeah!

Hey, great party!
Oh yeah, everybody's here!
Oh yeah, good to see you guys
Yeah, thanks for coming

By the way I'm Sweet
I'm like a chocolaty treat
Sweet, can I get you guys anything?
You can get me a lemon 'cause I'm Sour

Who are you?
I'm Spicy! I'm hot!
Hey! Bam! I'm exciting!
I am Spicy!

I'm crunchy!
You know, like uh, carrot sticks and cookies and peanuts?
Who invited the textures?
People like me! 'C-cause I'm crunchy!

People like me because I'm smooth
Like silk, like a glass of milk
I'm Smooth, how ya doin'?

Well I'm Bitter, I'm bitter like bitter greens
And radicchio and orange peels
I'm Bitter and I don't even want to be here

I'm bland
I'm bland

Well hey, I'm salty
I can help, I'm salty

Hey guys, how's it goin??
Who's that?
I'm Umami
Umami?!

That was the final movement of Antoine Korbajin's "Food Party"
Featuring Ed Shaganoozy on claves
Next up on Radio CAKE, Borrenecade Latios
With The Canadian Snacktime Trilogy

Yeah I'm working my way around asia before I start on the US. And eventually when I'm older and richer, I'll start on europe *mumbles about exchange rates*. It's def a place you'd want to visit, very tropical, strong in culture and the food is yummah if you don't mind the stomach aches. Love of fish sauce is a must for most dishes.

Nowhere around here, unfortunately. Found that pic on the net. One of those sounds really good, tho . . .
