I can't speak for him, but if I had to take a guess.....he's probably not tired of being an admin, he's tired of being an admin to a place full of shitheads that can't control themselves and have to create drama at every turn.

This place has bound to be hard to moderate. It's small. It doesn't bring in many new members. If you place too harsh a rule-set and mod with an iron fist, people get pissed off and leave. If you don't and let the place be lax, people act like 3 year olds on acid.

I can't comment much on Farsky, but Sunmoon was a different case. Sunmoon lost posters because he became a 2 face jerkoff that broke his own strict rule-set when it benefit him. Farsky seemed to lose interest/available time due to real life situations.

Why? My big failing here has been that I am very reluctant to ban people. I'd rather give the benefit of the doubt, let people express themselves and be judged by their words and actions. Let people pick who they want to ignore and who they like to listen to. Just because my name is red? That's a cop out.

That is the choice as I see it. Too hard, too lax or juuuuuust right. Give exact rules so "we know what is ok" and then have everyone citing you the rules or skirting them, reporting people for every stray word, baiting them into breaking article 4, section b. Or, go too lax and people take advantage. Eh i've made all these arguments before.

Why don't we just designate a scapegoat every month. Whoever draws the short straw has to behave like a butthead in every thread for two weeks and then get banned for two weeks while everyone talks about them. When they come back, they can help vote for the next one.

And yet, it's managed to survive as a relatively intact community that we have a hard time losing touch with for 24 hour periods when the boards would go down.

I think the main problem is we know each other too well.

Take this current argument- half of the accusations weren't based on anything within this actual thread, or the original, but people's understanding of someone elses viewpoint that they expressed X years back.

That said, the only time I have ever really had problems with moderation on these boards in any form is when it seems to not be open to criticism.

Too hard, too easy- those things are judgement calls, and the exact balance is impossible to find- and is going to be different for every poster on the boards.

The way it works out the best is when everyone talks it out. Rationally.

Other people that have ranted and raved and left have been one thing.

What bothered me so much about Kaffis was that he didn't. He was a respectful poster to the end, and left because he was told his opinion was not valid.

I'm not sure how you think you can expect people to not assign your statements any more weight than anyone elses, Dash- you are the one who makes and enforces the rules here. When you tell someone they aren't allowed to do something, how should they take it? Ignore it and keep on going because you are no different than any other poster telling them?

Perhaps if the board mods and admins were anonymous they would have the freedom to take the actions "needed". As was said we all know each other too well and based on prior postings we can chalk up moderator action or lack thereof to a particular moderator's personal biases which become obvious via their postings.

If the moderation were anonymous though then people can seperate the action from the bias and won't be able to ***** and moan that XXX is playing favorites or abusing privileges.

Well, let's see. We could discuss the ridiculousness of permanently banning anyone from the forum, regardless of whether they ask or not. We could discuss the arrogance of making a decision and then stating that it's not up for review or appeal. We could discuss the futility and pointlessness of suggesting that folks on a discussion forum are not "allowed" to argue about anything.

You don't need to ask permission for anything.

Bery knew what he was doing and knew what he was asking for. This wasn't a child walking into something unprepared. He asked to be banned and when we refused, he started **** in every thread he could touch, forcing our hand.

I'm not sure what there is to review or appeal. Bery certainly doesn't want to appeal the decision.

You can do whatever you like. You can discuss whatever you want to talk about. What you can't do, and we told Bery this, is drag the same **** around into every thread. What you can't do, is start an argument no matter where you are.

I don't think he can plea mental insanity like I did, hehe.
