I asked a simple question. You said you wanted to discuss, so I asked what you wanted to discuss. Don't be so **** defensive.

That's my point. Don't tell me what to **** do. At least not until you guys sort your **** out, and illustrate just a touch of consistency.

You have the rights the Administration of the board chooses to give you. The Administration has been very open with allowing discussion on most topics. Most forums I've seen have way more rules and/or much more moderation than we do here. Some choose to use that freedom maliciously. I've tired of it.

So we aren't a community, but rather a dictatorship.

Not how I've ever viewed the glade.

Then you've been viewing the Glade through rose colored glasses.

We've always been a dictatorship. Mostly its been a benevolent dictatorship with more freedom allowed than a lot of other boards. Many called Sunmoon a dictator. We often joked about FarSky being the Evil Overlord, and Dash has been trying like blazes to not be the Dictator he knows he could be.

This is a privately owned message board. By registering to the board you willingly make yourself subject to the rules of the board which may change over time. We have tried to make it a 'community co-op' for a long time, but someone else is still paying the bills for you to freely talk about what you want to talk about.

My position right now is that if people refuse to allow it to be a pleasant community and continue to disrupt and antagonize the other community members, they should be exiled from the community.

I've called this series of boards home for over ten years, I don't really want the Glade to go to an iron-fisted candyland, but I'm really ticked off at the deliberate internet jerks some of our posters have become.

If gelding the Glade is the only way to save it, hand me the scalpel.

Michael, I don't disagree with anything you've said. However, my position stands: Figure your **** out, and stop pissing off the board with random enforcement of weird rules. (this is the mods in general, no one in particular)

And for the love of God, don't tell me or anyone else what to do unless there's a clear rule for this. Otherwise, ask nicely, and maybe people will do you the favor.

Many people did call Sunmoon a dictator. Enough so, in fact, that the current Glade broke away from TRG because of it.

I've called the boards home for 10 years myself.... But I have to ask myself- how many people have to leave before it isn't the glade anymore, but a completely new group of people?

I would say that if you think the internet jerks that are a sizable portion of our posters are new, than you have probably had tinted glasses on as well. The **** that is being thrown around here, now, has been thrown around since the original IRL forum on TRG. And by some of the very same people. I don't think there is some recent surge of posters 'becoming' internet jerks as you seem to.

And judging by the post from Khross a few pages back, and Arathain, I don't believe I'm the only old timer here to be under the rose colored illusion that these forums were 'ours', and not 'yours'.

They never were mine. I've never paid the bills or administered the board. Even being a moderator is very new to me.

Yes, the jerkery has gone on since the early days of the Ranger's Glade, and mostly from the people who are still doing it. As I remember, the Real Life Community broke away in disgust at seeing IGN take over the original glade.

Our dictators have been mostly hands off, which has been good overall. I just see no benefit from tolerating the jerkery anymore.

Do you?

Rules have been enforced uniformly since all this happened.

I have never seen any point in tolerating the jerkery.

I think very few here have.

As I said earlier, my problem is when the administration or mods tell people they can't argue about decisions.

It doesn't mean the administration has to change their decision, but it doesn't hurt anyone to let people argue about it.

Or your earlier, and I'm assuming temporary, since it is now gone, post in this thread telling us that any discussion of Bery's banning would be taken as argument and disciplinary action would be taken.

Quick, related question:

Where ARE the rules now? I went looking for them last night and today, and they are no longer stickied in any of the forums I can find.

But yes, the moderation has been fairly consistent throughout this mess.

We're basically trying to rework everything into something that remaining members can be happy with. In the absence of clear-cut rules for now, I've been moderating with the mindset of "no flaming or attacks outside of Hellfire".

Mookhow posted seconds ahead of me with a different approach, so I deleted mine in support of his.

Nobody's talking about you specifically.

And that, right there, is the source of all of your problems. The jerkery rises and falls, and the mods are always behind the curve. Changing policies and doing things differently on a whim, abruptly, or without notice is going to piss people off.

It's almost like the **** hits the fan, and just as it begins to settle, the mods step in and piss everyone off again. The reactionary rule changing/modding shifts should stop. I know it's tempting but retraint FTW.

This is where you show me how I've messed something up or not responded to a report in the past two weeks.

Lenas:

You are not the only one here who represents moderation.

It is possible for you to have been doing a fine job, and to have us feel like moderation has been inconsistent at the same time.

Moderation here was doomed to inconstancy. I'm not surprised at all this is occurring, though it took less time than I expected.

Everybody has a different idea about what "asshattery" is, so if the defining criteria is "no asshattery" then of course there won't be consistency.

It's quite possible that what one person sees as an insult another sees as an obvious truth. Kinda hard to moderate quicksand.

But, take earlier in this thread:

Dash says that Talya was trolling, although he isn't sure why.

Trolling was one of the defined points against the board rules at that time.

No official warning is made against her. Or even a semi-formal "Don't do that, Talya, it's not nice" from the administration.

From what I recall - without having the rules post to refer back to - trolling was never actually against the rules.

At one point, it was observed that there was no report made. I can't see a mod intervening without a report.

I thought there was a section prohibiting trolling, but that might just be my poor memory.

It was why I was looking up a copy of the rules.

At this point, playing Monday Morning QB on the moderation through this mess just seems petty and pointless to me.

Taskiss:

While others may disagree, I would say a mod can and should take action without a report. It doesn't mean that they should be magic people and take care of everything, but if they are active in a thread and there are problems, waiting for someone to report them just seems like we're bogging things down in red tape.

But I'm sure that and other things are what the mods we have left are discussing at the moment.

In general, I do think keep the moderation staff at a consistent and larger number would help in spreading the load. We've had two mods retire that never got replaced.
