My goals...

1) Lose 20 pounds by January 2011, if not sooner
2) Be able to walk 2+ miles every day without leg pain and numbness
3) Lose the belly fat that is so dangerous to my health and flatten my stomach
4) Strengthen my core muscles and strengthen and tone my arms and legs

What I have achieved so far....

1) January 2009 weight 160 pounds...January 2010 weight 147 pounds
2) Can walk just over 1 mile before my left leg goes numb and I need to rest a few minutes (I have sciatica and my left leg from hip to knee goes numb if I'm on my feet too long)

What I am doing.....

1) Walking in the park every day, weather and my left leg permitting
2) Leg lifts, squats, back exercises from my Back Pain class, 5 pound weights for my arms, resistance bands, and pushups

I can't do all of these exercises consistantly every day due to time constraints, however I try to get a 20 to 30 minute walk in every day (even if it's just up and down the hallway at a brisk pace on rainy days) and the weights in every other day. Squats can be worked into every day household chores and I use stairs whenever possible and I park at the far end of the parking lot when I go shopping.

I don't expect to see results immediately, but I do feel a lot better about myself and can see a difference in my body already, after only starting the walking a couple of months ago and slowly adding the other exercises since then.

I like the 2 mile a day walk goal Jasmy, that's a good one.

Stepped on the scales this morning...

another pound bites the dust!!

Dash:

It's .56 mile around the lake in the park...we are to the point of three laps most days, with a 5 minute rest at about one and a half to two laps. Hoping to get to four laps now that the weather is getting nicer.

1.68 miles yesterday plus squats, leg lifts, weights, and a couple of my back exercises. Somehow I injured my foot, so only .56 mile today but I did get some squats and modified pushups done today as well as some much needed stretches. Best part about today in the park were the two green herons that flew in close enough for a great photo op...too bad I didn't have my camera! :(

Great job Jasmy! Rest up your foot a bit and keep going. I like running and walking outdoors, very few green herons come to the treadmills =p.

I'm sleepy...I thought the title of this thread said "My Goats." Heh.
Awesome work, Jasmy! I'm still working up the courage to do more than putter around the house.

1.12 mile today...nice day for a longer walk but the foot and leg didn't want to cooperate. :(

I did remember my camera, though, and got a couple pictures of the herons...just need to host them somewhere and I can post them here.

No...Cottonwood Lake in Hellyer Park...not really a lake, more like a large pond.

Okay, I'm fairly sure Vasona is a lot larger than a half mile around. Great place to walk though.

Lake Vasona and Vasona Park are beautiful (and where my hubby took me on our first date ;) )...and also about a 20 to 30 minute drive from my house. Hellyer Park is five minutes away by car and is connected to the Coyote Creek Trail system where hikers, bicyclists, and horses can find miles of trails for their outdoor pleasure. I'm working towards being able to hike some of those trails along Coyote Creek in the near future.

1.68 miles in the park today, with 20 each squats and modified pushups beforehand.

Haven't posted much lately...been busy with other stuff. Still try to get a walk in every other day at least, even if it's just one lap around the lake. Doing squats and modified pushups throughout the day as I can. Not on a regemine, just do what I can as the day goes on. Anything I do outside of my computer chair is a triumph!! :D

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, except for...

Sunday: 5.4 miles
Monday: 1.97 miles
Tuesday: 1.98 miles
Wednesday: 4.5 miles

Not sure how much I walked on Saturday (day of arrival) because I forgot to put on my pedometer. I bought a pair of those new Sketcher's Shape Up shoes while in Vegas. Gotta say I love them!! I've had a problem with my toes and balls of my feet going numb on me when walking while wearing enclosed shoes, but I don't have that problem with these shoes. Also my thigh didn't go numb on me the entire time I was walking around Vegas. :D

Been fighting a cold since the day after coming home from Vegas. :(

It has been gorgeous out the past two days though, so yesterday my exercise consisted of hauling 1.5 cubic foot bags of potting soil out to my garden pots, then planting my vegies and herbs. Today I hauled a few more bags, planted some lettuce and onions, then walked 1.68 miles in the park.

Today was a 2 mile hike to the back cove at Calero Reservoir to do some fishing, then a 2 mile hike back to my truck to come home! (Me 2 bass, hubby 0  )

To quote Taj Mahal..."bet your life that your sweet wife will catch more fish than you"

The flu has been kicking my butt since Sunday, but I'm hoping to start walking again tomorrow, drug induced fog permitting. I've also found a couple of exercises to tighten up my abdomen as I lose the weight, so will be starting them up every other day for now.

My legs hurt!! Went fishing today...the semi-easy 2 mile hike to the back cove was a bit more arduous today! Water level has risen since the last time out there. Hiked through thigh high grasses up and down hills and far around where the normal trail winds. I think we added another mile one way to our hike today!

No fish, not even a bite, but lots of birds...quail, wild turkey, an osprey, some terns, pelicans, Canadian geese, mallard ducks, black birds, red wing black birds, egrets, killdeer, and a heron as well as the normal turkey vultures circling overhead.

What a glorious spring day in Northern California!! :D

Haven't posted much here recently.....

Walks have been hit or miss lately but the last few days we've been able to get out and do just over a mile before my leg goes numb on me. My doctor says it's sciatica, but none of the back exercises have helped it, so I'm wondering if it may be due to a couple of falls the year before it started...landed on my left hip both times. I've had back problems since I was 21 (after being thrown from a horse and falling off of roller skates within 2 weeks of each other) and never had any numbness until after those falls a year or so ago. Oh, well, see doctor again in August, will just have to talk to him about it once again!

Haven't posted much for a while. Between trips out of town, illness, and injuries I haven't done as much exercise as I should, however the past couple of weeks I've been working out every day trying to get back into a schedule. I am now up to 25 modified pushups and 25 squats (holding a 5 pound weight in each hand) every day plus working the weights Mon Wed Fri. I've also added some abdomenal excersizes using the ball Mon Wed Fri. I'm down to 145 pounds and feeling better every day! I would like to go for a walk every day but hubby's schedule won't allow that and he doesn't want me going alone because the meds I'm on make me too dizzy, he is afraid I might fall again like I did the end of June. I still have purple scars on my left knee and elbow from that fall. :P

Had to forego squats for a few days last week, the knee was acting up. :( I've added them back slowly, just 3 days a week for now, to see if the knee is going to be okay with them.

Knee still giving me trouble so cut back to 20 squats Mon Wed Fri...see if that helps a bit. Still doing weights and pushups...abdomenals on the ball are hard...balance is a problem, but still working at it! Hope to get a few more walks in, if the weather and hubby's schedule cooperate.
