I hermit.
Depending on where I'm at, and what feels right to me at the time, I'll do the commune with nature thing (long walk in the woods, on the beach, etc), lock myself in a quiet room with peaceful music, watch TV, play a computer game, take a nap or cuddle with one of our cats.

Oh, and Damaged ... hope you get better, soon.

Thanks for the well wishes. I know I've got a way to go, but at least I've started. The biggest thing I need to do now is figure out a new career path. I've been doing IT in mostly Windows environments for 10+ years. Desktop support. Phone support. System admin. Round and round and round, and I've gotten to the point where it's just more of the same BS, the same idiots with the same self induced problems as the last time I had to talk to them.

My wife does well in the salary department, so school is definitely an option, just would need a part time job to keep ourselves comfortable. When you're deep in the muck and mire like I am, it's hard to think about tomorrow, let alone next week/month/year. I am working towards getting to the point where I have the sensation that this isn't the end of the road, which is a good start. Here's what I'm thinking so far:

MBA with an IT or IT Security focus: get out of the trenches, and into the position where I can start running the show. I can't be any worse than some of the imbeciles I've worked for in the past, after all.

DBA: get out of the trenches, and learn to enjoy working after hours. Less human interaction though, so a plus, and the pay isn't bad. This would definitely be a "take a few courses and see how I feel about it" kind of thing, because while I know some basic SQL, there's a lot more I don't know.

This last one is out of left field, and don't laugh at me Rynar. There's a Le Cordon Bleu here in Dallas, go there, pick up some skills, get a **** job and work my way up the ladder until I land a nice

With the first two, I do have lots of grunt work behind me, and it's a logical step. The chef thing, well, I do enjoy cooking, just don't know if I like the idea of doing it for the 16 hour days that some folks put in...

Unfortunately, my wife won't let me just sit on my *** and play Xbox all day.

I was actually sitting at my favorite bar last night speaking with the chef. He trained in San Francisco, at the facility that is now owned/changed to Le Cordon Bleu. The impression that I got from him is that it'd be a waste for anyone to go there now; apparently he doesn't think very highly of it. I think his main beef was the increase in price, he said just the name change alone increased costs by 20k+.
