It's possible this video was made right when the 100 million cut was announced. So it could be a few months old.

I vividly remember an infomercial for some kind of cutting shears where they cut through a penny that ran several times on TV

I'm 99% sure it was this video.

I suspect it just wasn't as long ago as I thought. I was half-thinking it was some anti-Bush video, where a clever person took the same video and recorded very similar audio over it. But my memory is extremely terrible for most stuff and I suppose it wouldn't surprise me to think something five years old when it was really one.

Man, it sure puts things into perspective eh. This is just one example of so, so many in our day to day lives of really big numbers that, in truth, we have no idea how to really judge. The analytical brain understands concepts of millions, billions, etc quite easily... but it's another thing to have a full appreciation for the values.

So thank you, random fact from a random tv show or whatever, for telling me that X takes as much energy to run as would 1,600 Libraries of Congress. It sure sounds impressive, but I have no idea what you mean by that!

Yah this is about a year old. It was excellent. Simple and effective way to put things in perspective.
