Got a new case/psu that I'm pretty excited about. Before my purchases, I was using an Antec 900 case and a crappy Thermaltake 400w psu. Noticed one of my fans going out on the psu (and I've lost an entire rig that way before) so I decided to replace it.

Then I said to myself, "Self, with a new power supply you'll get to have fun with cable management. Why don't you go modular, and while you're at it, why not get a new case?" High-fived myself and got busy.

I ended up purchasing a Coolermaster 690 II Advance plus a Coolmax 700w PSU. My PSU hasn't arrived yet (5 days, /cry) but I got the case last night and it's probably the best mid-size case I've ever owned. Six sideways drive bays with easy clips, four of which are removable. I did so, since I only have two drives, and I figured it'll help airflow. Also has a SATA dock on top of the tower for hot-swaps. One of the biggest things, though, that I didn't even find out about until I got it delivered.. is dust filters. My Antec 900 got so dusty I'd have to disassemble and clean it every month.

Extra bonuses include space behind mobo tray for cables, CPU tray cut-out, and an extra vertical slot for expansions (ex. USB hub).

Do they still sell water cooling kits?

When I get around to actually buying new guts for my rig, I'll probably include a water cooling setup. I like the idea, it's just the fear that's hard to conquer.

Understandable. My last Vaio had it and I can't figure out for the life of me why the industry has not adopted it as the standard. That thing ran as a media server 24/7 for two years.

Hmmm its kind of pointless if it doesn't hit the video card too otherwise you still have all that fan noise.

Seems waterblocks for video cards are sold separately? $70+ for an 8800GTX one.

$220 for the whole set up then? That seems awfully high to me.

honestly, any one of those pre-set up branded package kits like that aren't worth it, they aren't that good quality and don't provide any better cooling than getting a high end air cooler for half the price which really won't produce that much more noise, if you do want to go water cooling you should go with a DIY set picking the higher quality parts you want from a site like http://www.frozencpu.com, been getting stuff from them for years for water cooling, i've done 4 water cooling setups so far.

Also if you're worried you can get non-conductive fluid too so no risk of frying anything, though i've never used that myself as the best cooling comes from distilled water, though you want to add something to kill alge, I run a 10% antifreeze in mine.

Water Cooling isn't worth it anymore.

Depends, if you just want max overclock a high en air cooler will pretty much get you right around the same overclock you would get with a high end water cooler, the high end water cooler will do it a lot more quietly however since you can have a significantly larger cooling surface area and thus have more fans spinning at a much lower rpm with water cooling.

Not true. Thermalright's IFX-14 + IFX-10 is on par with or superior to everything but extremely well built custom double loops with a refrigerated reservoir on a single 120mm low volume fan.

Hell, I've got a passively cooled i7-930 @ 4 GHz that won't break 32c under full load.

Extreme(!!1!1!!) overclocking is pretty pointless, too. In order to make it actually work dependably, your investment in cooling systems, larger power supplies, etc. will almost always exceed the cost of just buying a faster CPU/GPU/whatever in the first place.

You could argue that it makes some semblance of sense if you're buying the fastest processor on the market and then overclocking that, but this is what we call being on the wrong side of Moore's Law.

I like watercooling just for the reduction in noise. Fans are noisy and prone to break down over time.

There's not really an noise reduction in a water cooling system in the first place. Also, watercooling requires more complex machinery and introduces more points of failure into the system itself.

Lol I set up my water-cooled VAIO as a media server (that I never put media on) for 2 years straight in the bedroom because I didn't know it was on. It made NO noise.

My machine makes no noise and out performs water cooled rigs on passive cooling. 120mm Scythe S-Flex fans are quieter than the pumps in a water cooled machine. You also have to consider that your water cooled machine needs a radiator and fan itself.
