The comic is poking fun at the movie.

When Rhodes takes the silver Iron Man suit, one of the general dudes tells him he wants the suit combat ready(despite already being combat ready) and then they put a bunch of guns on it. See, the comic guy knows the suit is already ready, so he just put a belt on it to make it look like he did something because it clearly didn't need any more to be combat ready.

It’s more poking fun at the Air Force, because we deploy to combat locations, then they hassle us about wearing a reflective belt so we don’t get hit by cars on the one road on base, despite the fact that mortars are landing in the base. So, by AF logic, combat ready means it needs a reflective belt.

A little backstory.

Due to a magnet malfunction finally pulling the shrapnel from Tony's chest, but at the most inopportune time, Pepper Potts dies of shrapnel wounds during delivery. Loss of his soul partner and good right hand drives Tony Stark further into alcoholic depression and superpowered rage. Colonel Rhodes has to take him down and he's sedated for awhile in a maximum security hospital prison for the superpowered insane. Colonel Rhodes, gravely wounded but victorious in the fight against Tony gets a medical discharge.

Rhodey spends the next few months training the world's youngest Superhero, Iron Baby. The Plush Bunny terrorists threaten world peace and its time for Howard Anthony Stark, billionaire genius baby, to save the day.


Unfortunately, i think that makes more sense than the real plot for Iron Man 3 will, but I'm a pessimist.
