Nutshell, Lars Vilks is a Swedish artist that made some controversial images of the prophet Mohammad and thereby pissed off a number of individuals. The video below shows him at a screening of an even more controversial film that well, look the guy is into pissing off people who worship Mohammad.

He is assaulted by angry Muslims shouting Allahu akbar and the end result is that the film screening is canceled and further visits to this university by Vilks has been revoked. Below is 10 minutes of what happened before during and after.

They got what they wanted though. Message sent. Why would they stop going to places that offend them and use violence if it works so well? For good measure they've attacked his home too.

In case you hadn't noticed, Fred Phelps and his one little group of nitwits, is exactly that: one little group. This is just a bunch of unorganized muslims, not a group. Not only that, but you can find muslims having protests and making threats all over the world any time something like this happens, or sometimes just for the sheer hell of it

No, quite frankly the fact that Fred Phelps has to be personally referenced every time Muslims start this crap as if his mere existance somehow equalizes everything is a tacit admission that Islam is a lot more aggressive and hostile than.. pretty much any other religion.

Not only do we not see this prevalence of angry, hostile, and sometimes violent protst from Christianity, we don't see it from Bhuddists, Hindus, Taoists, Shintoists, Jews, or anyone else.

I'm sure I could go find all sorts of hateful pictures coming from Christians as well. Phelps is the poster child for that kind of hateful crap, but he's certainly not the only source.

I do agree that his ilk are a minority of Christians. However, it's equally true that the extremist muslims are a minority as well.

These are not extremist muslims. Extremists are the ones that actually go blow themselves up or otherwise participate in violent organizations. These are the ones that support them.

If they didn't support them, the sort of ongoing violence that happens in places like Afghanistan and Iraq would not be able to happen. Violent extremists need the population's support to hide and supply them.

As for Christians acting "hateful", you might or might not be able to find "all sorts" of pictures, but you would be hard-pressed to find calls for violence, even from Phelps. Opinions you find hateful are not on the same level as actual calls for beheading people.

I can find similar behavior on campuses of American liberals yelling down and cursing and threatening violence to conservative speakers.

Therefore we can conclude that Americans are all classless people who don't care about free speech, and threaten violence to those who differ in view for them.

As far as the religion of peace thing, if you want to get nuanced in your terminology to distinguish between the rank and file follower of Islam and the "Allahu akbar" and underwear bomber types in some way I'd agree with that.

I'd also agree that the number of people who support, condone or "understand" such attacks is not small. I'd guess the number of people who arent mad at what was done to Vilks is even higher.

Simple truth? Care to back that up with facts or is that just a baseless assertion that you've called others on?

As for the numbers, I have no clue if radical or even overly conservative Islamists are the minority or majority. I couldn't even tell you that of any other religion, though I'd feel safest with Buddhism that it is not. I don't have any data to back that up. Why are we so quick to assume this level of extremism is a minority instead of confronting head on and determine if it really is?

It's simple math.

If 1.66 BILLION people were out protesting and suggesting the killing of anyone who insults Islam, you'd know. It's a tiny, tiny fraction of that number. Even if it were a million people protesting, you'd be a 1/10 of a percent.
