CALL ME when something like this happens!!! YES, I'm going to **** worry, but I NEED TO KNOW!!!!! **** woman gave him TUMMS instead of aspirin, to boot!!!! Her reasoning?? Her second husband had the same problem and she knew what to do!!!! WTF????? I am absolutely livid!!!

He is fine, didn't go to hospital, but ...SHE SHOULD HAVE CALLED ME!!!!!!!

Just send Elmo over.

No instructions, plausible deniability.

LOL...Thank you Micheal!! I needed a laugh!

(besides, frozen leg of lamb works better...no evidence left once you cook it and eat it! ;) )

I'm still very angry, but I've calmed down a bit. I love my stepmother but this BS needs to end. Once I am completely calm, I will call her and tell her just that! I just needed to rant because...well, it's my DAD God damn it all!! (not as calm as I thought I was, sorry)

I'm assuming he's following up with (or has been a patient of) a cardiologist?

I am only assuming so DFK!. He said he had great doctors, but I didn't have enough time to ask him any questions, he had other calls to make. I will get more info tomorrow...I just hope I can remain cool, calm, and collected during that call!

Jasmy if he didn't go to the doctor, how do you guys know it was a "mild heart attack" and not just acid reflux/heartburn/indigestion? That happens sometimes...maybe the tums was the correct choice in this case?

Also, your dad seems fine....why did he wait a week to call you?

If it truly was a heart attack, then yes, I would be livid as well.

Let me quote the relevant portions here...

It's not indigestion. It's not gas. It's a frakking heart attack. I don't care how "mild" it is, why didn't she take him to the doctor?

When my mom went to her final trip to the hospital before dying of breast cancer, my grandparents were the ones to call me saying I better get down there.

My parents "didn't want to worry" me. She died 2 days later.

Farsky, I can read.

All I was saying is, if no doctor confirmed it, then it may not have been a heart attack at all. People sometimes confuse heartburn/indigestion or gas with a "mild heart attack."

1) There is no such thing.

2) This is a suicidal action.

Your dad and his wife should be glad I am not his doc.... That's all I will say now.

*grumbles*

I will see if my Doombots can intercept the Squirrels before they murder your Stepmom. However, they will be taking your father to a physician.

I realize now that my post may have been interpreted as a slight on or direct response to you, LK, particularly with my comments about indigestion and gas. The truth is, I didn't even read your post. I read only Jasmy's first post, and her stepmother's lack of grasp of the severity of the situation incensed me so that I jumped directly to respond, that whatever actions other than taking the father to the hospital immediately were idiotic and naive. To me, it doesn't matter what it is; if you think it's a heart attack, get thee to a hospital, immediately. That post was directed not at you, but Jasmy's stepmother. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks Farsky...I was just trying to go the route of "well maybe its not as bad as it seems" to make Jasmy feel better. Was thinking I failed.
Maybe I need to not post under the influence of hormones either...its as bad as being drunk I think.

Jasmy, I hope your dad is ok and I hope its nothing serious.
I also hope that they both keep in mind that whenever something happens going to the doctor is a good idea and so is calling you to let you know what is going on.

Sorry for side-tracking on your post. You have every right to be pissed.

The squirrels are unneeded at this time, however at this point determining if there is a need for medical followup needs to be determined.

Take him to the doctor yourself. If he hasn't had a heart attack the doombots might give him one.

He needs to get to the doctor.

What happens if the Doombots, the Squirrels, and Elmo all get there at the same time?

Update...

I called and spoke to my stepmother about an hour ago....

She didn't call the EMTs or take my dad to the hospital because she decided it was indigestion from a rather large meal they had eaten earlier!!! The only doctor he has seen was his diabetes doctor the next day!

I'm just...flabbergasted!! I know perfectly well just how bad indigestion and acid reflux can get, I'm on meds for both. I also know perfectly well that a heart attack can mimic those symtoms! Why, for the love of all that is holy, did she NOT at least call the EMTs to make sure it wasn't a heart attack??? If it was MY husband I sure as hell would have!! At least she promised to call me if anything happens again! /sigh

Thank you all for your concern and well-wishes!

Good luck! I had something similar with my mom - 'bout the same age as your dad, but she lives alone. I went down to take her shopping one night, and she says, "I don't think I'll go, I feel kind of funny."

Straight to the ER, mom.

Turns out she's been having little episodes for the past 8 months, and didn't want to tell me. This time, they went in and put in a stent. She's feeling better already.

So, not saying this is the case, but your dad may also be in the "I don't want you to worry, so I'm not going to tell you" camp. Anyway, be strong, make sure they communicate with you if at all possible.
