As to his methodology you'd have to contact him directly. However, considering his group is a pro-gun lobbying organization I don't think you'd question his statistics.

They're not. Our low violent crime rate (excluding domestic violence) is just another one of those rural things - no gangs, limited drug trade, no racial tensions, limited wealth-based segregation, no urban "pressure-cooker" effects, and so on.
