Teach your daughter to cook from scratch. Watch her quickly outdo you and start turning out incredible stuff. I've seen that happen several times, some folks don't know how good they can be until they are introduced to the opportunity.

Not my daughter though, she resisted every effort until my friends got her interested in cooking. She likes to bake though, killer cupcakes. Just what I need, sigh.

We don't let Stampy near any sort of cooking appliances other than supervised visits to the microwave :p

she is pretty good in a kitchen. But she has my tendency to get upset if it does not come out perfectly.

It disolves completely in water and is almost flavourless (a slight sweet/grassy taste). It's pure fiber and will cushion blood sugar swings somewhat, and it's great for maintaining a healthy gut flora.

It has been a while... but to give an update:

I am keeping things decently under control. My Glucose levels tend to run a bit higher than "normal" but I have felt great, and have been figuring my limits.

I go to the doctor next month (5/20) for a follow up, I need to go get bloodwork done again just before that (2 weeks or so).

I am feeling good going into this.

awesome.... my diabeetus is looking like we may have it under control, but my lipid panel is going haywire. So they are putting me on a different cholesterol med that causes severe muscle cramps in the legs.

That is a problem which I already suffer from, I am NOT happy with this. I would almost rather deal with the full body painful goosebumps I was dealing with when they had me on Niaspan.

They put me on Niaspan. I took it once.

Once.

Woke up in the middle of the night with the pins and needles flushing thing...

I said yep. That's enough of that.

This place is amazing. I've been on a pretty strict diet lately, and the reference data on this site is extremely helpful in planning my meals, especially dinner. If you register, it will let you save lists of recipe ingredients, meals, etc... it also allows side-by-side comparisons of individual food items. Keep an eye on the 'Serving' size option on the display. I was looking at Chunky Peanut Butter,and it showed 1900 calories... which kinda freaked me out until I realized that was for a full cup. :P

I am going to start doing the cheerios thing as has been suggested. My breastfast as of late has consisted of a poached egg, and whole grain wheat toast, with High Calcium Country Crock with a cup of coffee (Stevia in the Raw and sugar free french vanilla creamer).

I have been forcing myself to go something for lunch, even if just a slice of toast with some peanut butter on it (maybe a tablespoon worth which is 1/3 of a serving, and still a lot.)

I will admit I have been severely lacking in some of the diet areas, my first and foremost priority has been to get the diabetes under control. Luckily I took to the Metformin like it was second nature, there is no current plan to do anything other than this medication. But now I am going to focus my efforts onto getting the cholesterol under control.

More grilled foods, less pan fried or deep fried foods, I can deal with baked buffalo fingers instead of fried.... :)

I did save that particular site as a favorite I will be digging into it further tonight.

Potassium is the answer for leg cramps. I know this from personal experience. I get mine from a variety of sources, vegetable juices, supplements, yogurt and bananas - though I hardly ever eat bananas anymore.
