This is a copy of homework assignment a friend of mine's son did. The goal was to create story problems with arithmetic. He is 9. Parts of it really gave me a chuckle so I thought I would share.

Quote:
Homer Simpson gained 5 pounds on Monday, 15 pounds on Tuesday, 45 pounds on Wednesday, and fell through the floor. What is the weight limit for the floor?
The weight limit for the floor is 65 lbs. Plus Homer's weight on Sunday.

A hobo has hunger pains everyday since he has no food. On Monday he had 4 stomache aches, on Tuesday he had 7 stomache aches, on Wednesday he had 15 stomache aches, on Thursday he had 36 stomache aches, and on Friday he died. How many stomache aches did he have before he died?
The hobo had 62 stomache aches before he died.

Subtraction:

On Monday a cat eats 2 mice. On Tuesday a cat eats 5 mice. On Wednesday a cat eats 6 mice. Before the cat ate any mice, there were 46 mice. How many mice are there now?
There are 33 mice left.

On Monday Dumb Fool protested to be in a math problem with 25 mebers in his protesting group. On Tuesday there were 12 members because some members left because Dumb Fool smelled bad. How many members left?
13 members left.

Multiplication:

On Monday I played 6 hours of video games. On Tuesday I played 4 times as much, How many hours of video games did I play on Tuesday?
I played 24 hours of video games on Tuesday!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA-ZZZZZZZZ…

By problem 6 the word "Monday" has been overused. The term "Tuesday" will be overused 3 times slower than "Monday". If my Math problems went forever, (Thank Goodness they don't.) When would the term "Tuesday" be used up?
The term, "Tuesday" would be used up on problem 18.

Division:

On Monday, er-Tuesday, there are 124 patients at the hospital. On Wednesday, 89 patients leave. 1/3 of those patients are girls. How many are girls?
About 29 and a half patients are girls. (One patient has mixed hormones.)

On Tuesday, 48 Lawn Gnomes come to life and attack mankind. On Wednesday, half as many lawn Gnomes attack mankind. How many Lawn Gnomes attacked mankind on Wednesday?
24 Lawn Gnomes attacked mankind on Wednesday.

There is an old Far Side cartoon, Hell's Library, one bookshelf, every book on it has Story Problems in the title. Big Book of Story Problems, More Story Problems, etc.

Someone had to explain it to me. I liked story problems.
