What is the criteria for a date in a meaningful sense?

Interest in the other person beyond just their physical attractiveness, friendship, or entertainment value. "Dating" implies some sort of effort at actual relationship, even if that effort is only to explore each other's interest.

By your own admission you aren't doing that, and even if you clam it is what you're doing, the behavior you describe precludes that being true. You aren't dating, you're just hitting on girls and trying to get them in bed. You've already stated you won't spend any money on them.

I don't want to spend money on them, especially when there is no logistically possible way to sleep with them. If they value me as a person then they don't need my money. I'm telling them at the start of the date that I won't pay.

One can only hope Lex eventually outgrows this phase, for his own health if nothing else.

I hope I can outgrow my current phase and enter a new phase where I will be better with girls.

The responses to this thread should give you a pretty good idea of what the majority of people think about you, your actions, and motives, Lex. That alone would be a little worrisome, especially considering the amount of amusement you find by socializing. Most people who socialize prefer to fit in and make sure the people around them think well of them. You, on the other hand, almost get aroused from being the center of attention. You actually appear to have a hybrid narcissistic/histrionic personality disorder, though I'm no psychologist. You seriously do fit the bill for several characteristics of both disorders.

Actually I usually don't like being the center of attention if I can avoid it... I often only take it out of necessity, or otherwise when I find it amusing. I'm sacrificing my time to be with her. I don't want to pay money for a girl's time, however. No matter what bullshit reasons you give me. A girl isn't some sort of service that I want to pay for.

She's sacrificing her time to be with you. If you're not spending money on her until she sleeps with you then she IS a service you're paying for. Spending money to ensure she has a good time isn't paying for a service; it's demonstrating that you're interested in her for reasons that aren't completely about you and your penis.

The fact of the matter is that calling these reasons bullshit is just the whining of a petulant child. That's how practically everyone else enters a relationship; by doing activities where they show interest in, and the willingness to make sacrifice to, the other person. Calling it "bullshit" is just attempts to handwave away reality.

Your time, by the way, is not a sacrifice, since you're doing it for your own selfish reasons. You seem to like using words that you can't use correctly.
