Why the hell can't the teachers do the exact same thing?

There are kids in my town who protested the Governor because he cut funds and therefore forced some teachers out. Or so the union story goes. If the union simply accepted the pay freeze they would not have such a powerful image to club Christie with.

I love witnessing righteous rage.

My friend just went though this with his teachers union. They voted voluntarily for a pay freeze (really just no raise, no experience bonus) and a slight decrease in health care in exchange for no one having to get fired.

They are generally satisfied especially my friend who would have been out in the cold otherwise.

I understand why. That are certain people who believe any cuts in governmental spending is a bad thing. I live in an area in NJ that firmly believes that now. I went from an area that believed that less. The problem is we have certain people who think bankruptcy will never happen. And then you have a small minority that believe if we go into bankruptcy, they can alter the entire system from the ground up. Thankfully, enough people seem to be outraged and backing Christie's decisions thus far. I just fear the moment when people see what the cuts in governmental services leads to in September and next year. Will they be supportive then?

Another argument I hear is "Well Christie spends more on his staff, why not cut those people!" Like the governors administration staff salary would even make a microscopic dent in the deficit, even if it were true that he is over paying them.

It's all so stupid. I mean, of course nobody wants their stuff cut but we're broke. It's been kicked down the road so much people just cant grasp that it needs to be done I guess.

Agreed Dash. Though I think he really should play by his own rules and get by with a minimal staff. It would prove his point further and not be a public relations problem. But that problem's picayune compared to the greater issues that New Jersey faces and he's trying to deal with.

Awesome. Need more of this across the country.

The teacher complaining about pay then in the next sentence saying she only does it because she loves it is great, as is Christie's response " then you don't have do it", but the take away line for me was:

"Unlike the United States of America, the State of New Jersey cant print money."

P.S. Apparently the teacher, Rita Wilson, makes over 86k per year assuming she is the one Rita Wilson in Rutherford listed here:

I think he has the idea down fairly well. And he doesn't apparently even need a TelePrompTer (autocorrect assures me that is the proper capitalization)
