I'd say that the headings for those sections are sensationalized.
They say "OMG X is gone!" then another "OMG Y is gone!"
But reading the details it's little more than... X is changed, Y is changed. Especially the guild advancement thing. The heading makes it sound like the whole idea is scrapped, but then the paragraph below explains that there's still guild progression:
Quote:
Guild Talents are gone
The guild talents are gone and your guild now gets extra bonuses depending on its level. There are 25 levels and each level will automatically reward with more cool stuff. The leveling process remains unchanged and your guild will gain experience through PvP, Dungeon and Raid progression, questing, etc ...
So there's not a tab anymore for your guild's talent tree, but instead a tab for your guild's... bonuses? And as your guild gets a new level, it gets new bonuses... sounds a lot like talents to me, just with a slightly different implementation. I guess it takes the choice out of progression somewhat, and that's never a good thing, but just how relevant it is depends a lot on a) what the bonuses actually are, b) how fast a guild levels, and c) how easy it is to get all 25 levels. I was really looking forward to a guild talent tree, but I don't really feel like much was lost with this announcement. When Cataclysm comes out I'll still be working towards guild progression. The details may be different but the underlying concept is still there.
Archaeology doesn't surprise me, but I don't have strong feelings about it either way. I am big into professions and I'm going to do it regardless, but I can see how the idea of a required secondary profession is not universally desired. And make no mistake, it was required as it was.
Disappointed about SFK and Deadmines, but then again "X optional thing is delayed" is never positive news to anyone.
Really happy with the addition of multiple hard extra bosses. Algalon was pretty successful, aggravating 1 hour limit and all.
This may be me speaking as a guild officer here, but I really like the guild reputation thing. The details are important, so I can't make a final judgment yet (which would be silly even if we had the details given that it's not even beta yet... things will change) but it will be great to take some of the weight off the shoulders of the relative few people in each guild that donates everything.
