Never been a huge herb fan really but can't seem to get enough lately.

My current favorites:

Lemongrass
Basil
Cilantro
Ginger

I've been making margarita pizzas but wow fresh herbs are sooo expensive!

I tried growing some things but even with watering every day and keeping plants in the shade, the Mississippi heat and humidity have killed all 7 plants I have tried to grow in the past 2 months....the 2 plants I have indoors are dead too and I can't figure out why....it may have something to do with these teeny tiny gnat sized flies hovering around my plants and I have no idea where they came from or how to get rid of them.

So I tried a jar of pesto to put on my pizzas instead...its ok its just not the same as fresh basil leaves...mmmmmmmm!

I had something the other day (lean cuisine, hahaha) with lemongrass and ginger and omgosh it was soooo good! I need more lemongrass...do they sell it at wal-mart? (I'm so un-hip, aren't I?)

Last week I bought tomatoes and onions and cilantro and limes and garlic and made pico de gallo...yum!

Any suggestions for some tasty herb-based concotions? I'm open!

I soooo want an herb garden but I don't have a green thumb! :'(
I'm such a bad hippie. :(

Lemongrass probably won't be at Walmart, I don't think I've ever seen it as anything other than fresh. Whole Foods or other stores of that type will have it, and if you have any Asian markets that would be your cheapest source. Heck, if you can't find it locally I can stuff some in an envelope for ya. For other herbs, make friends with a gardener. And get a knob of fresh ginger and keep it in the freezer in a zippy bag to grate when you need it.

herb stuff... hmmm....

Ever fried sage? Excellent on pasta with browned butter.

I like fresh tarragon in my chicken salad.

Blanche asparagus then sautee in butter with summer savoury (dried works here)

Chervil has a super delicate flavour, use it on boiled red potatoes with a little olive oil.

Rosemary is great on roasted potatoes

How about tabbouleh? You can get a boxed mix, but jump up the parsley in the directions to a full bunch or two of curly parsley. Flat leaf parsley has more flavour, but in tabbouleh the texture of the curly works better.

I love Indian mint chutney, it's hot and cool at the same time. Amazing on grilled flank steak.

That's all I can think of right now. I use a lot of herbs, so i'll make notes of what I cook for a few days.

Sweet, thanks Taamar!
I actually have a rosemary bush that I planted at my father in laws house. For some reason, everything survives over there, hahaha!
I planted some cilantro over there too but now its like 5 feet tall and I don't recognize the leaves anymore.
Never had tarragon but it sounds good. I'll give these things a try, thanks!
