For the past 3 or 4 years, I've gone down to the nearby park for a 4th of July fireworks show with my brother and his girlfriend(and the past 2 with my nephew as well). My parents are normally out of town for the 4th because of dogshows and such, but this year they were finally going to be able to come. Except for the fact that this year they are doing the show on Saturday night(which happens to be the 3rd of July). No big deal, right? No, my parents both work on Saturdays and won't be able to make it. **** you, stupid park. Why the **** are you doing it not on the 4th of July like you are supposed to?!?! God damn it all to hell. There goes one of those really rare chances to have all of the family together for a special occasion. God this pisses me off.

In my town our municipal government cancelled our display, rather than deal with unions.

Local business owners called them on it, and have joined to pay for and run the display themselves.

It's a lot like those municipalities that do Halloween on the 30th or Nov 1st. It makes no sense to me.

In metro Detroit, there're fireworks all weekend long, along with the "Target Fireworks" that happened on June 21st. That's the big one along the river between Detroit & Windsor (US/Canada).

My city, along with a number of others, canceled their fireworks this year due to budget woes.

For the last two years, our city council has run the fireworks off private entity donations because they've said there is no money in the budget for it. Yet there's money for Cinco De Mayo celebrations for some reason.

It's the same reason it's not OK to wear a T-shirt with a flag on it to school on CDM. It's racist, or something.

Un-American? What could be more traditionally American than making changes that benefit most people (who don't want to stay awake all night on Sunday while morons play with their fireworks) at the expense of truly screwing over a few?

Now the city will keep you up with fireworks on the the 3rd and the morons that play with their own fireworks will still keep you up on the 4th setting off their own, arguably more of them since the city won't have a display that night for them to attend.

This really has nothing to do with that. Cities don't keep you awake at night with their fireworks; they're generally over by 10 pm. Assholes with their personal fireworks will keep you up all night before and for a month before and a few weeks afterwards. The idiots in my neighborhood have practically had me climbing the walls for at least the last 2 weeks already.

The good news is we are going to the fairgrounds in Pomona(about 10 minutes away) and watching them there on Sunday. Because even my brother works that Saturday. We have to pay to get in to watch, but I say that's a small price to pay to be together with my family on Independence Day.

This!! As much as I miss our dog, I am glad she isn't here to be scared of the firecrackers and fireworks that have been set off over the past few weeks! I am dreading the next few weeks as people around here try to get rid of their excess fireworks after the 4th!

I'm all for community fireworks shows. I don't even mind a little public funding going towards a little holiday fun as long as it's not unreasonable.

Personal fireworks however should be restricted to designated places at designated times, where sufficient safety and supervision is abundant.

Last fourth of July there was something like 10 million dollars in property damage in my county alone from personal fireworks burning down peoples houses. Not to mention all of the frazzled nerves, lost sleep, and freaked out pets.

I'm generally the last person to call for another law on the books, but this is one case where I'll make an exception....

People are too stupid to be trusted to decide when and where is the right time for such things.

Personal fireworks are illegal in my city. However, that doesn't stop all of the idiots around here from setting them off.

This. However you can go 20 miles down the road and buy them. You just have to really really promise to take them out of state. you wouldn't lie to us right? *cute eyes*

We don't even have to go that far. It is legal to buy fireworks in the city that is basically right across the street from us. We used to be able to go to the local park in the next city and set off fireworks in the parking lot there. But I guess the city got tired of paying for cleanup(not that I blame them) and you're only allowed to set off the fireworks on private property now.

I think you misunderstood Elmarnieh. The pie is for dessert, after you shoot the commies.
