During a previous recession I applied for a job in the clipping room at a newspaper. It was barely above minimum wage, but I figured it was better than unemployment. I received a call from the hiring officer asking if i had dumbed down my resume because it was such a low paying job. I told him honestly no, I hadn't. He told me too bad, I wrote better than the six Ph.D.s he was going to interview for the job. He had to follow the newspaper's hiring rules about higher education receiving preference for positions. Even for a job clipping newspapers for the files.

Later that day I applied at Kelly Temporary and was working the next day at about the same rate.

Which has little to do with the thread, but hey, so what.
