**** you I wanna see it. Sue me, I'm easy, and I like supporting urban fantasy. Maybe we can finally get a real Dresden movie if this does well. :)

I want to see it just to see what Nick Cage does with it. The fact that it's a Disney movie and appears (trailer, timing-wise, etc.) to be one of the many pretty shameless Harry Potter cash-ins has given me pause, though.

No? Actually, that is an insufficiently strong rejections of all that is this latest abomination of a movie starring the man named Nicholas Cage; you know, he would still consider himself an actor. The film adaptation of this particular story has already be done in such a sublime manner that Leopold Stokowski was involved ...

I will, however, support the push for a real Dresden film.

Wait, this is a remake of THAT Sorceror's Apprentice? I figured it was just some writer who's too young to know classic Mickey. The Disney connection should have tipped me off, I suppose.

It is a remake/adaptation/transmogrification of that thing which is Goethe's poem and Paul Dukas's rather sublime and appropriate symphonic tone poem based on the 18th century ballad. And to that, without any question, I must say no ...

I suspect this film will be of an epic size fail. It has way too much going against it. One, it looks from the albeit limited commercials, it is designed to appeal to the tween crowd while it is trying to draw on the nostalgia of a much older group that won't appreciate the dumbing down of the classic, and it has Nicholas Cage in it as one the main characters.

Dumbing down of the classic?

Wait, this is a remake?

This is supposed to be a reinterpretation of the animated cartoon Fantasia starring Micky Mouse.

The Sorceror's Apprentice, as it appeared in Fantasia, is the animated interpretation of both Goethe's poem (18th Century, 14 Stanza Ballad) and Dukas's symphonic poem of the same name.

No, this is definitely about some apprentice magick user getting in way over his head with things he doesn't understand.

Granted, but unlike Fantasia and some 300 year old poem, this actually looks cool.

I've not yet seen anything in the commercials that I would say looks cool, or even remotely suggestive this will be a good movie. If what they are presenting in the commercials are the teasers and points of highlight, this movie will suck greatly.

Inception how, looks cool.

You know, I want to see Inception. I really do, and I'm going to see it this weekend, most likely. But I can't wait for The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I dunno...it just has this...pull for me.

Saw it yesterday. Thought it was pretty good. It had a great homage to the Mickey version that appeared in Fantasia. Some genuinely funny parts, and overall pretty entertaining. I thought the cast did pretty well, including Nicholas Cage. But I'm generally not as critical of my movies as most of you are.

Didn't get this vibe at all. It really did look like they put a new spin on a classic Disney short.

Pause like, say, the cashing in on nostalgia with The A-Team? :P

Despite his notoriety for picking a lot of crap projects, Nicolas Cage has always been passionate about his work. He's always gone full-throttle and never half-assed his work, even if said work is the worst thing ever (see The Wicker Man, a film that I consider the greatest comedy ever made, if one views it as a comedy). The only film of Cage's that I outright despise is Ghost Rider.

I've never really liked Nicolas Cage before, but his performance in Ghost Rider has made me never want to watch anything he is in ever again. Really, the only movie I liked that he was in was Con Air and that's mostly because the rest of the cast was ****.

I didn't like his acting in "Peggy Sue Got Married", but I'm OK with the rest of his stuff. There's times he just shows up and reads the lines, but he doesn't seem to take himself seriously to the point of obnoxiousness.

I'll be taking my wife tomorrow, we'll be joined by our kids and make a movie/dinner night of it.

Saw it, enjoyed it, Nicholas showed up for this movie and did a decent job. It is definitely a Disney Movie.

Spoiler:
There is a homage to the Fantasia segment of the same name, but it is a minor part of the film.

If you want to, go. It will not change your life, but its a pretty safe entertainment. Not nearly gritty enough to be a true urban fantasy, but it is enjoyable.

There are a couple of gaping plot holes. I'll let you figure them out.
