So, I did the naughty and watched the movie before picking up the book. The movie was excellent, and now I must go out and get the books. Highly recommend it. It's in Swedish with English subtitles on Netflix streaming.

Basically the story of a reporter on his last legs career wise, a cold case, and a fantastic character in the form of a young, righteously vengeful computer hacker.

Yup, I read this book, it was great. I'm glad to hear the movie was good too, planning on watching it when I finish the series.

The book is in my pile to read, and I just noticed the movie in my Instant Queue.

I want to read the book first, though- I've heard it's good.

I'll probably bump it up to after I finish Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

I've yet to pick up the series or see the film. The amount of buzz around it has me quite interested, as does the news that David Fincher is in talks to direct a remake. Normally I hate it when America feels it has to "Americanize" foreign hits, but David Fincher has yet to disappoint me.

Indeed. Lisbeth is like a tiny, angry batman. But a hacker. And hot.

I'm with you on all but the hot.

Not hot at all.

Not hot?

This shot totally reminds me of Gina Gershon in Bound. Wonder if that's what she was going for.

No, not hot (in the movie). At all. Picture above is not bad.

That said Gina Gershon is not hot either.

If by "not bad" you mean you can tolerate her apparent enui, oily hair and totally uninspiring wardrobe, then yes, it's not bad.

She doesn't have zits. That's not bad, too. I don't see a mustache, that's not bad either.

Not being a crossdresser, I generally don't get inspired by a woman's wardrobe.

After I met my wife at the place we were working, we both went to the Christmas party and she was wearing this black/gold shimmering dress with gold ... tassels, I guess they're called. Thread things hanging down from the bottom of the dress and hanging from the seams where the parts of the dress are sewn together.

Trust me, I was inspired. Before that, I was attracted, afterward I was smitten.

Heh - I got her confused with Jennifer Tilly.

Gershon's not my favorite, but pretty hot.

She was extra hot in the movie. *shrug*. If for any other reason than her abs.

Her abs may have been nice, I don't know. I was too distracted by her ugly face. :P

Hmm, I think you miss the point. The basic inspiration you should receive from a woman's clothes are how to get her out of them at the first opportunity. Whether that ever happens or not depends on how well you inspire them.

M - that's just tactical thinking. Not that there's anything wrong with tactical thinking, mind you.

Saw this and its sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire this weekend. I found both to be very good movies. I doubt any translation we can make here will equal them, much less surpass them. They probably will make more money and destroy the stories, but there really is no valid reason to redo them just so they are in English.

Now I feel compelled to go buy the novels, the whole trilogy.

Apparently they have Daniel Craig playing the lead male, and I just think he's too good looking for the role.
