I got Dan Brown for one of my longest recent posts in the WoW forums. Then I get James Joyce as my very next similar author in the Wheel of Time thread. Color me confused.

I must say, I'm a bit skeptical of this if only for how fast it is. If I had to guess, I'd say that I have full support in software that claims to do this, but it probably has to be pretty extensively developed and take a lot longer in its analysis. I suppose I'm just guessing, though.

edit: Quick ran through my post history in the name of rigor. The results:

Quite frankly, your mastery of the English language is insufficient for that comparison. And, since you apparently have little understanding of Nabokov or his linguistic and literary skills, I find it rather ironic. As it stands, Lolita is the definitive American Romance; and it was written in English by Nabokov while he lived in the United States.

That said, the comparison mechanism is only keying in on the frequency of 10-15 words per sample set, as opposed to comparing morphological similarities in the language used. I would not put too much stock in anything.

Wow. You managed to insult my writing skills--(based on no actual data other than what I post hastily, and somewhat carelessly, often from a mobile phone??)

You've not seen anything I've written with a significant degree of care to have any basis for that statement, and we don't all go out of our way to sound as pretentious and condecending as possible in everything we write. If you were as literate as you claim, you would understand that a good writer makes stylistic choices as to the words they use for effect, not because they know no other way.

I write the way I write here, because of a shared sense of style the board tends to adapt, not because I am incapable of writing in any other fashion.

I've just come to realize thats just the way Khross is...I really don't think he can help it. It is rather annoying though. Especially when he seems to comment on a thread solely for the purpose of sounding superior and brings nothing of value into the discussion....but just as many times, on the other hand, he does have something to say worth reading.

But I'm sure I have my incredibly annoying posting habits as well, just like everyone else here.
I like that we are all generally pretty forgiving of each others flaws around here.

All of that said, I simply noted that the comparison to Nabokov is ironic and that your mastery of the English language is insufficient for such a comparison. Indeed, it is appropriate to note that Cormack McCarthy is Nabokov's inferior in strict lexical terms. Likewise, I indicated that the comparison engine itself was using a small sample set and word frequency to make its determination, as opposed to any true morphological study of the text provided to it. So, if you want to be insulted, by all means throw that victim card down.

I'm sorry. You've convinced me Khross. Clearly there is dire need for rigorous adherence to the standard rules of grammar while posting throw away comments to a casual message board.

Obviously, my spelling is so bad that I should run a spellcheck before posting to avoid being incomprehensible.

It is now clear to me that Khross's superior intellect dwarfs even the most learned individuals on the board. I've given up my belief in a higher power so that I might worship at his feet.

I put in my review of Alice in Wonderland, and got Lewis Carroll (and only Lewis Carrol). LOL.

Review of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang netted me Cory Doctorow. Review of Watchmen and a few miniviews pegged me as David Foster Wallace. Several other miniviews and some more personal blog posts also came up with David Foster Wallace, so I guess that's the average for my results.
