Hey, instead of pages of quotations and dictionary definitions and huge vocabulary words and dissecting people's speech and everyone turning this into a huge debate, how about:

Women of the Glade: "Hey, a few words tossed around this thread and the way a few things were said kinda hurt our feelings and we found it offensive."

Men of the Glade:"Oh, sorry about that. Didn't mean to offend you, just letting off some steam...came out the wrong way."

Women: "Oh ok. Thank you."

*GroupHug*

Yay!

Should we take that as you having been unwilling to actually have a discussion about this from the get-go?

Should I take that as you being unwilling to adjust your usage of terminology to actually fit proper usage?

Or, alternatively, should I take that as admitting they were bigoted and prejudicial statements, though perhaps not misogynist?

See, I don't have a problem with calling something bigoted and prejudiced that is so. And it was.

Or should we see that you have some sort of ax to grind and like to stir s***? Because that's really all I see. You've chosen what you wish to believe in spite of evidence; you had no intention whatsoever of having a discussion, you were looking for a soapbox to grandstand.

Yeah, it would be nice if we had gotten a 'sorry' before being told we were ridiculous for being offended.

Maybe we didn't deliver it right.
Hey guys, you hurt our feelings. :( Anyone like to apologize?

I have evidence: I have the English language definition of the word you're using improperly.
I have the fact that certain phrases in question are neutral in nature and word choice.

You have feelings and opinions, and absolutely nothing to substantiate your claims. Now, rather than stand idle at your attempts to denigrate me for wishing to have a discussion of phraseology, let's simply go this route: you apparently just want us all to cave to your whim, and can't get over the fact that we won't.

Get over it. Not every person is going to agree with you, particularly when the only thing guiding you is your feelings. Newsflash: feelings differ from individual to individual.

See, and right now you're applying the same double-standard Diamondeye has been talking about. You're ascribing to me statements I didn't and haven't made

No. That would be offensive, and I would not respond politely. See my response to Taamar in this post.

I haven't said a single thing one could remotely consider offensive to women. Demanding or asking for me to apologize indicates that 1) I hold blame for the feelings, statements, and word choice of others, 2) that I hold responsibility for rectifying "improper" feelings, statements, and word choice of others, and therefore 3) that I must share some of the feelings, statements, and word choice of others.

Alternatively:
This black man robbed my girlfriend. Why don't you black men apologize?

My perception is:

Women of the Glade: "Hey, a few words tossed around this thread and the way a few things were said kinda hurt our feelings and we found it offensive."

Some men of the Glade:"Dude, yeah, not cool"

Other men of the Glade: "They were letting off steam, anyway men get it all the time. It wasn't that bad. You're just oversensitive, and we have a right to say what we like anyway"

Me: WTF?

I think that perception is very interesting.

I disagree with it, but it is interesting.

My understanding, given that I haven't read the entirety of every one of DE's long-ass posts, is this:

1) An individual makes a prejudiced and possibly misogynist post.

2) He is lept upon, perhaps righteously, by many women for his comments.

3) Some men also decry the statements

4) Some men disagree with the generally interpreted nature of (1), as well as being lumped in with the OP

5) Pages of discussion emerge about double standards and whether (2) should have occurred.

6) I entered the thread, not really caring about double-standards, but caring about what individuals were being offended by and by word usage.

7) That itself devolved due to pre-conceived notions of word usage, or an unwillingness to examine verbiage.

2. He is lept upon by many women for his comments..

Hmmm I count 3 women posters in this thread. Many?

Also, I posted that I was offended by the comments of Wwen. He responded and explained his that his comments were venting, end of story.

Lept upon for his comments? No, I think it became more of a discussion that was broader than the original words.

Many, yes. Off the top of my head there are these women actively posting on the glade: Kirra, Taamar, Ladykate, Pheona, and about 2 more I can't think of right now without looking up the member list. Talya is infrequent. So yes, 3 of 6 is "many" in that context.

It seems that wasn't the end of the story for others here. I'm glad that was the end for you and Wwen. You both seem cool, so I'm glad you're cool with each other.

That's subjective. Each person's interpretation is subjective. That's why I found Taamar's interesting. The alignments and differences in perceptions of events for which there is a "paper trail" is interesting to me. I'm sure you've seen the same thing in clinical work.

Gee, thanks...I hadn't even posted in this thread yet I'm thrown in with the "many"! Personally, I understood what Wwen was saying from his first post! Didn't think he phrased it appropriately, but not my place to tell him how to "speak", per se...

Anyway, DFK! don't lump us all together in the future, okay? Just like you men don't like it, we women don't either!!

Thanks!

How are you in the "many?" She asked me to clarify "many," probably assuming I was meaning a flat amount of "many," rather than one relative to the overall active female population of the forum. A very reasonable assumption, so I clarified what I meant.

Are you disputing that 3 out of 6 is "many" of that 6?

I honestly don't understand your being upset here. I didn't mention your name, I counted you in my head (as one of "2 others I can't think of off the top of my head") amongst the 6 (or so) active female posters on the board. That's it.

Okay, I see one woman on this board taking offense, one stating she thought Wwen was venting, a third saying she tried...I don't see any other women on this board saying a damn thing in this thread, yet you think you are correct in your assertions that "many" of us are upset. You are the one always telling everyone else to use words correctly...yet you are throwing around 'many' with the claim that you are "counting us in your head"! Own your words DFK! and don't lump us all into your little slot of dissenting females! (FYI there are more than 3-6 women posting on this board!)
