That terrorist organization.

One day I will host a huge meat grill-out dedicated to PETA, then throw all the bloody juice on them as they protest outside.

Don't force your **** up beliefs on me as if you have some sort of divine right to decide how I can and cannot live my life.

The only PETA I support is the "People for the Eating of Tasty Animals."

EDIT: Just to add -- **** **** **** **** **** PETA!

If you really want to piss them off go get a puppy from the local shelter and eat THAT. Oh wait... that's illegal in this country because some people like to decide how we can and can't live out lives. bastards.

I would like to sacrifice the members of PETA here in Vegas to the BBQ grill in the Sky.

My daughter went to a concert with one of her friends recently and they (douchebags from PETA) decided to talk to my child about the evils of eating meat. They showed them the typical videos of animals being mistreated and improperly prepared for consumption and stuff....

And tried to say it is how all fast food in the US is processed. It has taken me the better part of 2 months now to get my daughter to be willing to eat any meat products again.

Had I seen them try to talk to my daughter, I would have offered some constructive "get the **** away from my 13 year old daughter, before I see if you bark like that seal with my foot up your ***!"

It is, unless you're buying expensive small-farm meat (usually organic, so the price jump is steep). And so all fast food meat is from animals that were horribly mistreated. I still eat it, I just don't pretend that those were happy cows.

Sadly, the PETA people know that a 13 year old is likely to try anything just to piss off parents, and that some of them will actually buy in. Same way religious groups try to distribute leaflets to that age group... the younger you get 'em the longer they stay.

Depends how you define "horribly mistreated".

That goes into territory I don't even wanna know about....all I care to know is that there are animals that are raised for the sole purpose of killing and eating them.

Beyond that, I just don't wanna know.

I would agree that they are not happy cows, but the photos and videos they showed were flawed because they ignored basic things like the health standards required by the United States for meat processing. It was not videos of an abatoire; but of animals being butchered in a dirt road, etc.

My daughter was down with going Vegan after that... until I reminded her that Bacon comes from Pig and Vegan's do not eat pig.

Depends how you define "horribly mistreated".

Slaughtered, dissected, rendered, etc, in order to sear their muscles at high temperatures and ingest them?

That's not giving them hugs and pats on the rump.

I'm a farm boy, born and raised. It ain't pretty, but it is tasty!

Very true, but to me "mistreatment" of an animal requires being alive.

And birthing animals whose sole purpose is to get eaten is not mistreatment either, in my book. It's like a wrongful life lawsuit against your parents...

I consider my definition of the word "mistreatment" mutable, based on the species involved. I also understand folks that remain consistent in their definition.

If someone treated a human as livestock are treated, it would definitely be mistreatment in my book.

There a a number of companies out there that really take the time and spend the money to deal with their animals in as humane a fashion as possible. My hats off to those folks.

There are also companies that just don't give a ****. I find them to be monstrous bastards.

Our neighbor's daughter - 8 - recently decided to go vegetarian. Except for bacon. She'll eat bacon. /rolleyes

And, my son (5) came home the other day from summer camp and told me that "Taco Bell is basically dog food." Turns out he heard this from a 10-year old. OK, it's funny when an adult says this, but not an impressionable 5-year old. Luckily, my wife always has good answers for these things.

Guess my point is that it ain't just PETA. Goddamn cultists, ****' leave my kids alone.

I only consider it to be inhumane towards an animal when they're harmed for no purpose, for pure entertainment, or out of neglect or serious negligence. Animals that have near-human intelligence get some additional consideration, since if we met other beings of human-like intelligence we'd treat them, and expect them to treat us, as fellow intelligent beings.

As for vegitarianism.. that isn't permitted in my house. Other than breakfast cereal and PB&J we do not eat meatless meals.. ever. We do not serve meatless meals if vegitarians come over; they're welcome to eat what they please of what's available. We do not prepare extra dishes that are vegetarian-friendly, although if one of them wanted to bring a soy-burger I;d throw it on the grill with everything else. Guests are not welcome to tout the virtues of vegitarianism or the rights of animals in my house, not that any ever have although my wife's uncle is supposedly a member of PETA. My children are not permitted to pursue a vegetarian diet; they will eat what's served or they won't eat (and throwing away food isn't allowed), although one is too young to want to be a vegetrian and the older one has no such inclination. When they grow up and move out they can do as they please, but in my house, such foolisheness ist verboten.

In the chicken houses it's not uncommon for a worker to pick up a chicken by the feet and swing it around to bludgeon the other chickens out of his way. This may or may not break the legs of the chicken in question, who is thrown aside regardless. The floor is several inches deep in manure because the chickens are never let out (it's hosed down before the next batch) and many of the chickens have open sores with maggots. Dead chickens are left in place until someone finds them and are sometimes ground up and fed the the rest. The people working in the chicken house wear gas masks and eye protection because the fumes burn. I don't insist that poultry be sent to club med and shown endless reruns of Green Acres while soothing piano music plays in the background, but that's a little much.

Are you aware of how this reduces the costs of chicken? assuming that you are, are you also aware of what it would do to the price of chicken if these processes were to be scraped? Do you know what that would do to the poor?

Those laws are dumb, IMO. Course, the big difference between the law-making body of the US and PETA, is that the government (sadly) has the authority to make and enforce such stupidity; Pricks Enacting Terrorism for Animals does not.

As for what brought this on -- admittedly nothing aimed at me personally, but reading some of their actions and their attacks on others (especially celebs) got me riled up to hotter than a ninja wearing 4 sweaters. Arson on facilities where they think animals are being mistreated (tons of property damage, not to mention potential loss of Human life, and ironically animal life), throwing blood and red paint on people who wear fur, shoving their self-righteous gospel down everyone's throats. Those aren't awareness/enlightenment tactics, those are bullying, terrorist tactics.

They need to be taken down a BIG notch and put in their place.

While fascinating, none of this really bothers me, except maybe the use of chickens as a bludgeon. Better treatment for chickens that are going to be food regardless would presumably drive up costs for humans. Clearly, these unsanitary conditions do not render the chickens unfit for consumption, so unless better treatment would also meaningfully lower costs or improve the fitness of the chicken for consumption, I really don't give a ****.
