And I'm pretty much OK with your right to chose that. Hell, I eat foie gras... but I refuse to pretend that it's 'kind and gentle' to the ducks. Decide whether the treatment of food animals is OK with you or not, but do it with full knowledge of the facts and don't white-wash it. I think this actually makes me MORE irritating to PETA morons... I know exactly how bad it gets but don't care enough to give up meat; they can't pretend that everyone who finds out 'the truth' will be on their side.

I know exactly what it does to prices, and I didn't say anything should be done about it, I simply think people have the right and responsibility to make informed choices.

I am one of those consumers who chooses to remain ignorant on purpose.
In 4th grade, they showed us a video in class on food production, including information on how many bug parts were allowed in things like bread. I didn't eat a thing for a week.

I love how PETA has got all of these celebrities "dedicated" to their cause.

I understand that Pamela "Cock Garage" Anderson is a spokesperson. As well as Jenna "I've Been Plowed More Than An Idaho Field" Jameson.

Guess what PETA, only a tiny fraction of these celebs actually care or believe as you do. They just want the publicity and the excuse to pose naked in your "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign.

Why would I care what the facts are? My position is the same regardless of what the particulars for any sort of animal or industry. White-washing has nothing to do with it; it's not like this is a big secret. People just don't really give a ****.

On the subject of humane animal treatment, and I screwed this up posting it in its own thread accidentally.

Not really a rant, but man, this guy messed this up. I think this is the right technique, but the blade point wasn't placed far enough distally on the lobster to severe all the ganglia correctly.

Some people do care. Some people get worked up enough about it to go after other peoples kids (hence this thread). And if the kids are raised knowing about it they won't respond to the crazies with 'Ooh, I hear meat hurts the precious animals!' they'll say 'Yup. Meat is murder. Delicious murder. Pass the bacon.'

Yes, we're aware of all that. However it was one of my posts you decieded to respond to (twice) in order to get these facts out there. I think I;ve already made it wuite clear that I really don't give a **** about the facts on animal treatment, and that I have no tolerance whatsoever for people with the views you mention. I certainly don't need advice on raising my children with knowledge.

Then don't read. What we do on this board is exchange ideas and opinions. You get to say what you think, I get to say what I think, other people say what they think, and then we all do what we like. That's how it works. If you can't stand differing opinions that's not anyone's problem but yours.

None of this has the first thing to do with what I said. I'm pointing out your presumption, with your comments about raising my children with knowledge, about making my descisions with knowledge, and the like, indicate you think that you're somehow raising my awareness, or informing me on an issue or something like that. All you're really doing is wasting your own time telling me stuff that I either already know or don't give a **** about.

You're serious? An opinion is condescending? Because you disagree? I'm thinking no. You've already decided that you'll call anything I say 'condescending' because you have no actual basis for complaint.

Neither of those statements is an opinion, nor did I say I necessarily disagree with either or both of them, or not. Try re-thinking it without such an emphasis on how you're supposedly being victimized, or whereever that last statement came from.

I've seen chefs use the technique from the top. I thought if the blade point was on the base of thorax and cut all the way through the to the top of the head, that the entire CNS (or at least the critical parts, the two masses of ganglia) would be destroyed?

Maybe his blade wasn't sharp enough. I just cringed, more for how awkwardly he tried to fix the situation, than for the lobster, TBH.
