I can only hope you have no political power outside of your single vote. I would hate to think of someone knocking on my sister's door (who lives in St. Louis) and taking away her dog to be destroyed. He is a very gentle, friendly, happy, and extremely well behaved pit bull mix. The idea of him being murdered by the state simply because of his breed makes me very angry.

Liken it to Nazi's,

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Insert your favorite dog breeds in place of the people.

Yeah, as that link I posted indicated, other breeds certainly aren't safe. That older couple had a purebred black lab, but some neighbor didn't like the way their hedge was cut, and next thing you know animal control is at their door ready to take their dog and kill it. The only thing that saved the dog was that he was registered as pure bred lab. How many people have dogs that are registered? My dog certainly isn't...he's a mix of lab and golden retriever.

Give careful consideration to the expected lifespan of the breed if you get Mountain Dog...it's VERY short, even for a big dog :(

Maybe it's just me but I draw the line on a dog that takes bigger craps than I do.

When I asked my wife how big a St Bernards poop was, her reply was "as if you did not use the toilet"

And now you have the reason it has been so hot and humid in Arizona lately. Screeling has been seeding the great Phoenix park system with his masterpieces.

As frustrated as I am with my Lab (ie, I was kind of blackmailed into taking him) You won't find a kinder dog. A group of neighborhood kids were playing in our back yard. One of them took down the swing from my daughter's playset and starting whipping the dog. Now this child is about the same weight as my dog, but the dog just sat there whining absorbing the punishment rather than respond to the child.

I wouldn't ever ask him to guard anything though. He'd happily invite a burgler in and show him where the valuables are kept just for a pat on the head.

I would have had a response for that child.

That said I DONT recomend A lab for people with small children. They're just too boisterous and dont know their own strength. At 7 (and 90 lbs) my dog still spends 3-4 minutes racing around the house, jumping in the air, etc when I get home. His tail never does stop wagging and it can knock small children over.

My daughter accidently degloved the last 6 inches of his tail that required amputation--The dog was crying in agony, flinging blood from its tail all over the house as we tried to round him up, but he never stopped wagging. Even with the loss of 6 inches of tail, he still can throw me off balance with that thing.
