I did the Supernova on Casual because I hate that style level just to get past it.

I will go back and do it again but I had to share this.

The mission where you have to round up 100 soldiers?

I was doing marines and medics (with two Goliaths) and clearing the map...

I have the orbital drop for barracks so when I set rally point (to one of the Goliaths), the marines drop there.

I was looking for the other guy and sitting at 84 or so... owning the map.

Then I stopped the wandering group and decided to take the victory.

First time I played the level, and I managed to stop my Goliath right where the 'rescue these guys' was supposed to occur before I took the victory.

Huzzah!

Spoiler:
I can't believe I missed the Dr. Narud hint. Good god, I can't believe I missed that. It makes so much more sense now. I was wondering where the **** Duran was, but he was right there under my nose the entire time. ****. It means that he was helping you cure Kerrigan because he knows Kerrigan was the only one that could stop the hybrids. But now that she has been de-zerged...****. I knew it!

.. Sure, but at what difficulty?

People recommend M&M for an easy brutal playthrough. So all of them.

EDIT:

Though, once you've teched up enough, Goliath+Science Vessel is just as effective. Especially with the Goliath upgrade that lets them shoot missiles and their auto canons at the same time.

Is there an easy way to go back and get the upgrade achievements, other than restarting the campaign?

If you've finished the campaign, you might be able to load a previous save, but I'm not sure that would work. The only sure way I know of is to restart the campaign. But try a previous save.

Yes. The whole "Jamaican Voodoo" thing is unique to blizzard characters such as Warcraft Trolls and Tosh. Voodoo doesn't really exist in Jamaica (Obeah isn't really the same thing). Voodoo is a Creole (French) syncretism of Catholicism and African Vodun practiced in Haiti, Louisiana, and a little bit in Martinique. Creole speakers sound nothing like Jamaicans. Jamaican Voodoo is, therefore, a Blizzard invention.

Ugh, what are you talking about? He just sounds like a troll from Warcraft. I don't care about all that useless trivia! Why are you trying to argue with me? Zug zug! :ugeek:

How exactly does one go back and do a level again? I let my son play the game and he continued the campaign but I had wanted to earn the achievement before moving on...

Well, for one, after completing a level, there is an option to replay the level right away at the stats screen. Second, on the bridge of the Hyperion, there is a computer that shows all the levels and cinematics you've seen. You can replay levels from there.

How do I get on the bridge of the Hyperion? After loading and logging in at bnet, then selecting my character, I'm just offered a chance to continue the campaign...

After I continue the campaign, I'm in a bar. Not that being in a bar is a BAD thing, but still...

I'm trying to get back to the "Liberation Day" mission.

I see. You won't be able to get to the Hyperion until you complete the mission Zero Hour. Which is the 3rd mission. So, either start a new campaign or play through Zero Hour.

Does replaying a mission get you more cash on top of what you already have? So could you keep replaying easier missions to get all of your cash upgrades and zerg/protoss research done?

Well, I backed off to Normal. Which is really a shame. Hard was proving quite the challenge, and Normal's a cakewalk so far; I've been breezing through the Normal achievements and secondary objectives, where I was stretching to hit the secondaries on Hard and the achievements (even the Normal ones) weren't gonna happen at all...

The more I learn in this game, the more it makes me realize just how clueless I am. LOL

Least it's a blast to play.

Definitely this right now. Two nights a week MMOing, one day on the weekend pretty much completely devoted to RPGing/wargaming, work around the house, and my summer/winter TV schedule being more packed than the standard TV season thanks to USA and TNT's excellent series mean I'm way busy lately.

Well if the introduction is any indication, this game is awesome. I started playing but quickly got boozed-up by partying roommates, so I had to put it down after the first mission and subsequent cutscene.

Will be trying to play more soon.

I'm on about mission 15 or 16. I have to finish by the end of next week because school starts up and video games get shelved until Thanksgiving. :(

I'm about to donkey punch this:

Spoiler:
Char mission where you have to save Warfield. I can build my troops up and rescue survivors with little problem, but when I get to pressing through no man's land to get to Warfield . . . I get face pwnt by the Zerg. I've even tried the medics + marines, and they still get smashed. Ugh . . .

I built 2 starports and built up about 10-15 Vikings and Banshees each. I then pushed to an expansion to the SE, gathered my air force and what ground troops I had around, and pushed north from there. This was on Normal difficulty.

Meaning you made the initial push SE with just Wraiths and Banshees, then gathered what was left and added ground troops for the push North?

One of the things that irks me about this game is the low survivability of units that you think will be absolute beasts -- Thors and battle tanks are disappointingly weak when it comes to armor, and even battle cruisers could stand a bit of a bump. Sure you can build up their armor/weapons, but even those seem to only help so much.

Yeah pretty much. I think I cleared out the expansion with my air, then airlifted a half dozen SCVs to build a new base while the air kept out the zerg.

So as I sit here at work (it's dead here) bored, I'm waffling on whether to just play through the campaign on Normal and be a bit underchallenged (by all indications) or slug it out on Hard with multiple retries on each mission at the rate I'm going.

What difficulties are you guys done or well into the campaign playing on, and what's been your experience with the difficulty curve (does it plateau at some point, keep getting harder, or even get easier after you get a few more unit options, research, and upgrades, for instance)?

Raltar wrote:
One thing that kinda annoys me about the normal storyline missions is that they are all basically timed. Sure, they don't have a timer up there at the top of the screen, but you are always having to do something that rushes you.

It gets kinda old after a while. I miss the original Starcraft levels where they fill up about 90% of the map with enemy bases, give you the last 10% with a small base and tell you to destroy everyone. Those kinds of maps are rather rare in Starcraft 2.

So long as you were playing at or near a difficulty setting to challenge your ability in the original, there was that same pressure to be in a rush, too. If you didn't, that 90% of the map would overrun you. Thus far, I've found the change in focus from "destroy everything on the map" to "do X, Y, and Z" to be very refreshing, even if X, Y, and/or Z frequently come with implicit timers. It changes the mentality and routine of your play, and allows situations where you can really be outmatched and retreat and containment, rather than just assuming (and finding out you're right) that you can push on and conquer it, become viable and even correct tactical choices.

Yup, my step-brother and I did this Saturday a couple go-rounds.
