I've found co-ops against AI to be a ton of fun as well. It's helped me learn quite a bit as well. I like trying out weird build idea's. LOL

I'm currently having fun with a Protos Phoenix heavy build to quickly race across the map & destroy drones before they have any anti air units going.

Yup, my step-brother and I did this Saturday a couple go-rounds.

thats weird, because Mook and I did a couple co-ops against mediums last night, and they were kicking our ***. I was rushed within like 4 minutes by 4 zealots and 3 stalkers :\

Well, whenever you do team games, somebody's going to get ganged up on. The key is to have enough to hold off being wiped off the map entirely while your teammate sends enough either to finish them off, or to attack their base and force them to retreat from attacking you.

The two scenarios that result are: teammate trade, where you get taken out but your teammate finishes off one of the opponents and then they both settle into a 1v1, or they pull back and both teams have a team member who has to rebuild.

When I say we had fun against the two mediums, I mean that I got rushed, my step-brother attacked their base, they pulled back. The process repeated a few times, I ended up building production buildings from the barracks up 4 times in the first 20 minutes. After that point, though, they switched their attention to him just as I was getting on my feet, and he got nearly wiped out while I polished off their army and moved on to strip the protoss computer's base of pylons, grinding him to a halt while I moved on to pressure the zerg teammate.

By the end, I was teched up to battlecruisers and banshees and had neutralized their air unit production and was firmly stamping out attempts to rebuild hydralisk dens, while my teammate was dismantling the protoss base at his leisure as he was able.

That build was used by pros in one of the beta tournaments to great success. Look up the HDH Invitational on youtube. Crazy stuff.

I found a tutorial about that build on HDStarcraft's youtube channel. Seemed easy enough.

So...

How's everyone doing at the video game in the Cantina?

And

Spoiler:
Donny Vermillion = Ron Burgundy? I don't think it's a coincidence

Me and 2 friends started off going against 3 Medium A.I. opponents. That's pretty rough, because they always rush one of our bases, with 3 bases worth of units. Eventually, we got our build times up fast enough where we can survive the initial rush, and the rest is just clean up. Now, it's to the point where Medium opponents are a little to easy for us. So we've been taking on 2 hards and one Medium for the most part (3 Hard AI's were just too many). We tried all 3 of us versus one Very Hard a couple of times, and were able to pull it off by the skin of our teeth. Fun times.

I'm really enjoying the SP campaign. And the AI versus me and my friends, but I'm really unhappy with the stability of the bnet servers for multiplayer matches. I'm about halfway through my 50 practice matches, and I've been dropped/disconnected from about 8 matches so far. And those 8 matches count as a loss for me. That completely sucks! The game will get slow, and I'll be presented with a screen that says, "Waiting for Server" and the only option is to wait, or click on the Surrender button. And it's not just me or my connection, because my 2v2 partner has been dropped from the same games as me with the same error. And the worst part is, that on at least half of those drops, we were in a very favorable position to win the match before we got dropped. I really hope they fix this soon.

I had the boss at the end of the 3rd level down to an inch of his life but 1) it was already past my bedtime so I was tired and 2) my hand was getting sore from continually mashing the space bar.

I had 3 extra lives coming up against that boss and blew through them in the last minute of the fight. Had I entered that fight with the plasma beam, I woulda trounced him.

Well, to be honest, unless you're a Micro God, there's no point in playing Ranked Multiplayer Right now. You simply won't be fast enough. Also, Protoss is stupidly overpowered at the moment.

My micro is horrid(I'm not Korean, after all), but I think my macro is pretty decent. I still have difficulty using casters, though. I need to work on that. I'm building up my courage to do my placement matches, but it's pretty slow going. I think I'll do some hard AI 1v1s and see how it goes. Playing against AI will never be like playing against real people, but I figure it will help me get my speed up and help me work on my build orders and such.

Won't really improve with time.. Suck it up, lose some placement matches, and start drifting toward the right league.

It might take a while for the field's records to get deep enough to place you with precision *quickly*, but that's not going to get fixed by us bronze/silver souls just sitting out, and even if the depth were more mature, your first several matches will always be developing your own record's depth, anyways.

I plan on jumping into some league play tonight, I think.

Haha, that's a new one. Was playing SC2 campaign, got bugged. Went ahead and killed the client, restarted, there's a patch. Installed the patch, went back into SC2, hit enter: "You are trying to login to battle.net with an unrecognized version of the client."

YOU JUST INSTALLED THE PATCH BATTLE.NET!

<sigh>

Game is suddenly crashing on me at the load screen. I get to the screen where you enter your BNet name and account, it's greyed out and then the game just closes immediately. Anyone have this? Any ideas what it could be? I disabled my firewall and havent changed anything since I was playing a few hours ago. Very odd.

I figured it out, long story, but the patcher apparently works off of Internet Explorer and that was having trouble. Didnt realize since firefox worked fine.

Played a few qualifying matches with a buddy. We won the first one, then went 0 for 2 after that. The second one, we got outplayed; third one was weird -- one of the two guys essentially soloed us while his partner did next to nothing.

Sounds like in the second game, the partner was funneling his resources to the other guy so he could build a fast army.

By the way. There's a way to basically get all the credits you ever want. I haven't tried it yet, but it involves maxing an alien research tree to 25. Once you do that, you get paid 10,000 credits for each research point you get after that. But you don't get those credits right away. You have to visit the lab and hit the research console to sell them.

So, what you do is you get 25 points. Then save up however many you want(or can, really). Sell them to get your credits. Now, before you start your next mission, replay an easy mission(first or second level recommended). When you finish, it will reset your research points to what you had before you sold them, since you have not progressed to the next mission. However, you get to keep the credits. So you sell the leftover research again and do a quick level again to reset the research.

I wouldn't exactly say money is so scarce you can't keep a reasonable edge as the campaign progresses. I just can't see a need to do that.

That's true. I bought upgrades for units I never ever used ever. So I certainly wasn't ever hurting for cash. Still, I thought people would like to know just the same.
