The abandoned orc shovel (AOS) is a quest item in the original Everquest game. The quest was a low-mid level Paladin quest (Vladimir was a paladin, but we enjoy his company, even if he is mistaken in armor class being better than speed and mobility).

Rangers (originally the finest class in Everquest, until the whiners got us nerfed) liked using the AOS because beyond being a quest item for Paladins, it was an amazingly poor two-handed blunt (2HB) weapon. It was pretty much the only 2HB we got until we were in our 50s.

So we would go to Lake Rathe (a zone in the game) and sneak around and grab it, or kill the orcs if we were feeling lazy, and use it to work up our 2HB skills so we wouldn't have to train them up all at one when we finally got one that was decent. The fun to be had with it was in going up and "helping" someone with a tough to kill monster knowing that we weren't doing any real appreciable damage and stood in no danger of pulling the monster unless the monster finished killing the other player first. Honestly, most of us did it just to improve our 2HB skills.

Maybe a Google of "Everquest" would help.

I suppose that remains to be seen; it seems to me that a little odd-ball behavior is not really a bad thing. Some of the forums seem alien to me, and particularly "Hellfire" is one to be sampled with caution. (Not to mention it's hard to go anywhere with no pants.) But there seems to be differing points of view here, and maybe I'll learn something new.

Welcome. I spend more time lurking that posting lately as I can't keep up with the frenzy of posts to have a coherent discussion but I've always found the folks here helpful.

I'd say you've pretty much got this place figured out, right there. You are obviously far too observant and intelligent to post here, further re-enforcing my option that...
Spoiler:
It's OBVIOUSLY a TRAP!

If by "differing points of view" you mean "you are all a bunch of raving lunatics": you pretty much have us pegged down.

Now that the ceremony's out of the way.. out of curiousity, what were you searching for?

It was just a Google political search, pretty generic. I found what I wanted but this was a link that came up on the list. I was curious, was all. I'm guessing there's a special meaning to /bonk?

Wiki was helpful on Everquest, if only in a general sense. Good to know the roots of this place, at least.

It has come a very long way since then. But it is the common basis for the majority of us here.
