Ok, people at my work are putting on yet again another Fantasy Football competition. I've always opted out because, in general, I am not a sports fan. I don't follow sports, I don't watch sports, the only sports I really enjoy are ones I am participating in physically.

But, they've ribbed me enough that I feel it's about time to throw down. And I believe I've come up with the absolute best team name in the history of Fantasy Football: Rainbow Fairies. With our awesome power of love, magic, and fairy dust, we cannot fail. It's a win-win for me, because if they beat my team then they would have beaten a team called the Rainbow Fairies. But if they lose to my team, well, that's even worse.

But here's where I need some help. As awesome of a team name as I have, I need some help in picking the best players. I need people who can make the Fairy cut. If anyone here could give me some names, or even an optimal team (hell, cut and paste your own wishlist!) I would appreciate it. Anything to help my Fairies take the (princess) crown this year!

How is the scoring set up in your league and what is the roster? (ie: 2 WR, 1 WR/TE, 1 TE, 2 RB, etc)

Its too bad you can't pick individual defensive players.

Would be perfect ;)

I refer you back to my statement about being completely out of touch with sports. So I have no idea what you just said.

If this information is obtainable somewhere, where can I obtain it?

And thanks for the link Nitefox, it looks like it will help.

Edit: Oh, and just to be clear to everyone, I didn't pick this name to infer that homosexuals are bad at sports (I originally wanted Rainbow Fairy Unicorns or Rainbow Fairy Princesses but the names were too long). Oh no no no, I am probably one of the biggest supporters of people of that orientation in Utah (especially considering my religion). Quite a few of my friends are gay, and I've even been to some Commitment Ceremonies for them. No, I picked this name more for the princess girly-girl ideals. And it's to make the quasi-homophobic players (who seem to be of the belief that they can catch "gay" from a toilet seat or something) a bit more fearful and easier to gloat over. Hell, one guy flat-out told me I couldn't use that team name. Mwa ha ha! It's already working! I love upsetting the macho balance of things. This is what people get for egging me on to engage in their sports competitions.

Just a few tips.

Generally it's best try and get a quality RB with your first pick. If you are fortunate enough to get the first pick of the draft, pick Chris Johnson. Anything after that is subject for debate but it should be one of the following, A. Peterson(Vikings), R. Rice(Baltimore), F. Gore(San Fran) to name a few. If you are at the tail end of the draft and a top tier RB is not available, go for QB. First QB taken should be Peyton Manning. After that you are looking at Tom Brady(NE), Drew Brees(NO), Tony Romo(DAL). But again, you should look to secure you RB position first. Next spot should be at WR. The league is getting a lot more pass happy these days so QB and WR numbers are up. It's a good strategy to try and get the number one WR from the team you drafted your QB at. There are a few no brainers at the WR spot, Calvin Johnson(DET), Randy Moss(NE), M. Colston(NO) but the WR positions is harder to figure out from year to year. Some guy can catch fire and the QB will look for him. P. Garson for Indy was like that last year. Kind of came out of nowhere. I'm thinking of picking him above Wayne this year. The TE position is starting to round out. In the past, there were maybe 4 quality TE in the league and then the rest. Nowadays, there a good number of them around the league. Top guys are A. Gates(SD), Tony Gonzalez(ATL), Dallas Clark(IND) and the guy from the Cowboys who I can't think of right now. Kickers should always be last. Find a decent one and just go with him. You will probably wind up dropping him for another K later in the season.

Other thoughts.

Usually pretty good to get the backup RB for the RB you drafted. If he gets hurt, you won't miss out.
Look for your starting lineups first. Fill in backup QBs and RBs afterwards.
Take a chance on sleepers. I think the backup RB for the Vikes is going to be good this year, especially if Peterson starts fumbling again.
I'd advise against drafting rooking QB's this year unless you have some kind of keeper league.
Keep up with defensive stats. If your QB is facing a team that week that has the worst passing defense and your other QB might be playing a decent defense, make sure you take advantage of the fact that you could possibly score more points with one guy over another. That goes with other positions as well(RB being the other key thing to check). Basically I'm saying don't get locked in on certain guys every week just because they might have better stats that someone else on your team.

Update:

I have to say, I have been enjoying Fantasy Football a lot more than I expected to. I've gotten the hang of it all, I think. The only thing that would help me more at this point would be if I was die-hard football nut who knows the strengths and weaknesses of each team. I think I would like to join the Glade's FF league next year for sure.

But the main reason I am posting this today is to share the love that was given this morning. One of our top-scoring teams made the FF playoffs and has been very cocky about how well he has been doing. Well, the FF playoffs are single elimination. And his very first game? He goes up against the Rainbow Fairies (my team). We've played together twice before. I beat him in week 2 or 3. But we also played last week, and be beat me soundly. I am sure I wasn't even a blip on his radar this week, and that he was more thinking about next week's game.

This week was the game that actually matters most, and sadly enough... he lost. So, I decided to come into work a little early to help him feel better about it.

His desk
His desk again

Forgive the blurriness.

Sad enough to say, his desk didn't remain in that state for long. My next game is with a guy who is the biggest football nut of the office. And he is 100% confident that he will not lose. However, he's seen first-hand what could happen to him if he loses. I hear a little fear behind his shaky confidence.

And you have finally discovered what playing fantasy football is all about. Good job, my friend. Well played.

Thanks all. :D

Hopwin, no I've never seen the League.

Also, going over this thread again I can actually understand it all much better now (as well as answer Hopwin's original question... our league is 2 WR, 1 RB, 1 TE, and 1 WR/TE/RB).

I definitely would enjoy playing with you guys next year. Be warned though, the Rainbow Fairies have a lot of secret weapons at their disposal to greatly increase their chance of winning. Namely, love, fairydust, and a whole heap of humiliation.

Yes, you can never underestamate any team's ability to have a great week.

In my other league, I had the best record by 2 games and the most points scored. I've got some guys that can score. During the first week of the playoffs, I run out to a comfortable league, just needing my team to have an average week for me. What happens? His team goes crazy. Vick, Collie, Rice, C. Johnson, B. Marshall, M. Tolbert all decide to have great games in the same week. 139 by just those guys killed me!!!

Well, there's always next year.

Yeah B. Marshall is one of mine. I have had his *** nailed to my bench for the past 5 weeks. He's burned me way, way, way too often to even think about playing him again. But, I decided to play him this week figuring "If I am going to go out, I'll go out in a blaze." That, and he really is an awesome receiver. When you catch lightning in a bottle, it's hard to just give it away. I thought maybe, just maybe he'll pull through this week. And he did.

My biggest problem this year is all the injured players I've had. Frank Gore was one of my heaviest hitters. Gone. Terell Owens is the latest in a string of bad luck injuries. Steve Smith? Gone. Knowshon Moreno (a guy I replaced Gore with) this week? Gone. I could probably name at least 5 more I've had to replace this year. My one player who has been a huge boon for me this year is Phillip Rivers. He's a hardcore fairy, definitely cuts the rainbow mustard.

Kirra: Oh I am certain if I actually win it all (I am not holding my breath) there will be a glorious gloating session of fairy singing and dancing. And I will be sure to include you in on it!
