Yeah, he actually named the horse after his ex-fiancee, whom he caught in bed with another man and did not take that well. There are several in-jokes in the film about this, such as when the trappers steal his horse and he sees one of them riding her.

Packer: "She only lets me ride her!"
Trapper: "Packer, everyone in town has ridden your horse!"
