I wanted to post for all those still playing EQ and might have missed the announcement:

SoE wrote:
In honor of Labor Day, EverQuest adventurers will be surrounded by a magical experience increase from around 10:00 a.m. PDT on Friday, September 4th until around 10:00 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, September 8th.
Take out the grills and cook up some of those nasty critters for twice as much as normal. Adventurer's efforts will be worth Double the experience this Labor Day weekend!

This will be a good chance for me to burn some much needed (because 2100+ isn't enough) AAs to catch up and finish ones I've been neglecting while PL and AA's for the alts.

Considering I can now break 35K HPs (over 40K with wild growth), I've been focused on fixing my AC issues. Things are getting better and I hit 3899. My biggest push (and I really have been trying) is to finish upgrades to Tier 4 armor, so I can get to the Tier 5 upgrades. I'm confident I'll be well over 4K AC if I can just get these going, plus the set synergy aug and power sources, I'll be rocking, if I can get the darn drops with my limited play time.

Still muddling through.

Can you give details on that again, Lenas?

I might enjoy dabbling without the subscription fee from time to time.

Instructions:

Spoiler:
Step 1 - Client
You MUST have either Everquest: Titanium Edition or Everquest: Secrets of Faydwer (Fresh install, no patching) in order to play on Flame of Chaos. We cannot supply this, therefor you need to get it yourself.

Step 2 - Forum Account
If you have not already done so, you will need to register an account with the EQEmulator Forums. Click the "Register" link at the top left of the page. Follow the prompts that are displayed and enter the required information: username, password, email address, etc. Make sure you use a valid email address as your new account needs to be verified.

Step 3 - Login Server Account
You will now need to create a Login Server account that you will use log into the EQEmulator Loginserver. Please go to the Login Server page (located under Miscellaneous in your UserCP). Select "Create a LS Account∞." Fill out the fields and proceed.

Step 4 - EQHost.txt File
In order for your client to connect to the EQEmulator Login Server (and not SOE's EQLive Login Server), you will need to change your eqhost.txt file to point at the correct location. Go into your EverQuest directory and locate the eqhost.txt file. Replace the contents of the file with the following (Remove any trailing spaces):

[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5998

Step 5 - Create a Shortcut
Now, you will need to create a shortcut to launch EverQuest and bypass the EQLive patcher (if this step is not taken, you will launch the patcher and overwrite the EQHost.txt file that you just modified, making you connect to the global EQLive Login Server). To do this, go into your EverQuest directory. Locate the EQGAME.EXE file. Right-click on the file and select "Create Shortcut." You can rename this shortcut and drag it anywhere you'd like (most people like to put it on their desktop). Now, right-click that shortcut and select Properties. In the target box, you will see the path to the eqgame.exe file. We need to edit this so that it will pass an argument to that executable when the shortcut is launched. At the end of the text box (after any parenthases), add "patchme" (no quotes). Your target box should look similar to this:

"C:\Program Files\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

Step 6 - Rename Zone Files
You will need to rename nektulos.eqg to nektulos.old. If you do not do this, you will zone under the world when going into Nektulos Forest. If you happen to do this, log out, rename the file, and log back in and you will be fine.

Step 7 - Spells File
Download the spell file from our server and place it in your EQ directory.

(Right-Click --> Save As...)
http://www.flameofchaos.com/spells_us.txt

Step 8 - PLAY!
Once you are done, log in to the EQEmulator loginserver and choose our server ( [PEQ]The Grand Creation [legit-pop-ykesha] ) from the server list.

Yeah Sui, I buff to about 42,000 HP now and 5300 AC with about an even split of raid and group level gear.

There aren't enough giants in EW for you to kill me now.

I can't even remember what was considered high back when I quit playing. I remember...1k AC was pretty high for rangers, though...and there was something about a soft cap...it was so long ago, though.

Its insane, buts its relative. Light blue trash in the "starter" zone for this expansion hits for 1400ish. Dark blue to yellow stuff in the middle to upper middle teir zone hits for 3-4k, with a min hit almost as high as the max hit from the LB stuff in the starter zone.

40K HP doesn't seem like a lot when experience level mobs can erase 20-25% of that in a round.

Fortunately, the group level stuff is relatively easy to obtain, and gives returning or casual players a good start on the content.

Again it is all relative. When this expansion came out I could not tank named in Field of Scale (or could just barely) even with shamn slow spot heals and cleric covering me. But, it is definitely better now.

This is definitely an understatement. The named that drops the Tier 4 BP quads for 7ks (and I've eatten a few 20K+ rounds). Fortunately there is a lot that can be done with gear, buffs, auras and AAs to prevent the bad rounds from happening.

I have half my Tier 5 armor done now and can normal buff to over 37K, once I get the others I should be able to push up past 40K and (finally) break the 4K barrier. Actually I can break 4K AC with bard songs, but I rarely have one around. Redoing some old content is a lot more fun now. =)

Just a suggestion, but looking at your Magelo, you have some great augs, but most of them are HP only. Based on my experience coming back a few months ago, you will get a ton more benefit from getting to mid 4K AC than 40k HP.

Anecdotal, I know, but a couple months ago I had stats very similiar yours currently (mine were a little lower) and was attempting to molo some of the tasks in Warrens for faction and progression. The blues were about all I could handle comfortably, and those just about drained me so I had to power med between kills. The whites I could only beat if I had all my AA ready, and even then it was 50/50. The yellow cons were unkillable.. best I did against one was to 60% before it crushed me.

I went back a few days ago, since I still need to ally faction there for my Cat aug and to finish some tasks for the familiar, and it was night and day. I figured I'd give a yellow con crystal a shot and it wasn't even close. I only had to med every 6 or so of the lake area crystal things, and my merc never went below 60% with back to back pulls.

Some of it was HP levels, since it gave me a better buffer between heals (about a 9K HP difference), but the majority of it was the 1200 AC difference (and I was using a shield in the first runs, so really about a 700 AC difference).

I know. I've been lazy and mostly going with what I could get. I have a few (and better) AC / HP augs stashed in the bank, but I have been trying to get the equipment upgraded before I put them in.

I made a couple of updates just now. Over the weekened I got the Tier 5 Arms and legs, thanks to farming [and finally getting] Klygg's Halandine.

I am sure I could be lots better with more focus and especially if I started raiding, but I just don't have that kind of time. So, when I play, I play to hang out with my brother and friends, vice doing all the things I should do. I think I need 3 more events to finish the face aug and maybe 25% through the hand aug already as well. I just gotta get the time to put into it.

Wow, that kind of HP is insane.

Seems like HP inflated with other stats staying relatively constant, though- When I left I was 22k hp unbuffed, but 3200 AC- doubling HP with only an 800 AC increase just doesn't seem even!

::edit:: And all this in the course of 1 expansion! I can't believe thats all I've been gone...

Since it has been a while and I didn't see any other EQ threads...

Has anyone done Temple of Bertoxxulous: Queen Malarian?

My intrepid group of friends (typically 30-35 toons, usually 12-15 being bots [myself included] who raid 2-3 times per month) have tried this event a couple times, only to get over-run late in the fight (all the bots and a lack of DPS). The last fight parsed at 1192 seconds and we only got her to 23%. I am typically in the top 3-5 of the raid, including this fight, which is a challenge because I am working my *** off with the cleric (curing and healing).

I think we are on track and one or two more attempts we should be able to make her dead, just wondering if anyone has suggestions?

One thing I think I will do (that I did not previously) was set up my autofire to chain cast Focused Storm of Arrows Rk. II. I just got the spell, but it is awsome! I know one of my casts yesterday (no bard, no zerker, yes shaman, no shaman epic, yes auspice, yes Sureshot) I had a 27K crit! We were so busy I didn't even get a chance to scream like a little girl about it in Vent. The best thing about the "Focused" line is that hits only the mob targeted!

I've also been going nuts on AAs lately and I am finally closing in on 3K AAs... (I'll ding that this week), which has helped a bit as I max out all this new stuff, but I still have not purchased either Outrider's Attack or Outrider's Outrider's Evasion.

Oh, and I'm still trying to "represent" and maintain myself as a casual ranger, but still stay in the top 100 on the Tunare/Eci Ranger Leaderboard list.

40K HP!?! What's every piece of armor have 1000+hp now? Damn, I think when I quit I was around 5500ish fully buffed and fully decked out ranger's were hitting I think around 8-9K

edit: well I guess it was a little higher than I thought back then if magelo is still right since it says my ranger's 7374 unbuffed, but either way 40k is still crazy.
