Anyway, in your opinion, is it a good quality, or dorky?

Good, though some can make it appear dorky.

Courtesy, manners, and defending those who cannot defend themselves? It may fly against the me first attitude of many moderns, but I usually don't care for them much anyway.

Being well-mannered or courteous should never be considered dorky. You open a door (etc) for the lady, that's how I was brought up, that's how it's gonna be.

I open the door for anyone -- man woman or child. It's not really a conscious effort at all, just automatic for me. Dunno if that counts as chivalry tho.

I've generally seen past the whole treating women like delicate flowers thing. Many get offended and give the whole "I can do it myself" attitude, as well as the fact that women in general are far more independent now than ever.

It's funny, I had a small talk with my daughter the other day about this. She is getting to the age where she thinks boys are cute and things like that. I told her that when she starts dating, that if the boy doesn't open doors for you then to drop him like a hot rock.

I think people make way too big a deal out of the whole door opening thing LOL.

There are so many more ways to respect others.

Courtesy is a good thing, to be encouraged. What I dislike is smooth-asses that are pretending to be excessively gentlemanly because they can't let a girl pass by without trying to put the moves on her, and people that hold up traffic and cause accidents being "courteous" when they would be more so to keep moving and get out of the way.

I open doors for women and I'm very polite and friendly...but I don't force it, it just naturally comes out. If I forget to open a door every once in a while, that's cool too, I don't make an exaggerated effort to jump in front of women to open doors or anything, it's just a nice thing to do. 80% of the time if the lady is [considers herself] attractive, she thinks I'm just doing it to get into her pants...lol.

I like it when a man opens a door for me, I think that is very nice. I don't expect it, and wait for it though. I will also open doors for men. Chivalry can be very nice to a certain point, and then it just gets weird. Sitting in a car until the guy gets out and comes around to open mine is weird to me, does that ever happen anymore? Pulling my chair out or letting me sit first at a restaurant is nice also, or holding an elevator door for me, that is an awsome one, like that alot.


We have a Pharmasist at work that I just love..when ever I call him for something I need stat or anything he says "your wish is my command". Lol, he makes calling fun! I think most girls appreciate chivalry because it makes them feel special.

PS if a guy opens a door for me..even an extremely hot one..I don't assume he wants to get in my pants. There are other things he does that make me assume that :p I think you are overthinking things, Nev.

Everything that is a faux pas is really cool in my opinion. Don't get rid of dorky personality quirks. They are a good topic of conversation and make you stand out.

There are days when I want to say f it all and stop being nice. However, the world has enough buttheads in it and doesn't need one more. Plus, it goes against my nature. Yes, I believe in chivalry, even today.

As someone who is very fond of chivalry, I know for sure it's not dead. Like Latin, however, not a lot of people speak the language. Also, it bears more of a resemblance to Victorian notions of Chivalry than medieval notions.

People should open doors for one another. Male, female, whatever. Because it's nice to do. It's a random act of kindness, and I'm all about that stuff. If you are opening the door for someone because you want to get in their pants, that's not so much chivalry.

Rynar - pretty sure Women have a higher pain tolerance.

I’m going to go with mostly annoying here, someone holds the door open for me that’s fine, if they stand there waiting to hold the door for me when I’m still a good 20-30 seconds away it’s creepy unless they are my girlfriend, most other stuff I find annoying, like a butch friend of mine was in my car one time and I stopped for gas and she’s like you don’t pump your own gas when your with a butch, of course my response is I don’t think so, my car, I’m pumping the gas.

Generally if it’s a macho guy type attitude it annoys me, regardless if it’s from a guy or not.
