On Medium I consistently spank protoss in 20-25 minutes. My build order is something along the lines of:

3 SCV's > Supply Depot > 3 SCV's > Barracks > 3 SCVs > Refinery > 2 SCV's to refinery > upgrade command center

When the barracks is out pump 4 marines and get a bunker at the ramp. You should have enough gas at this point to build marauders, your factory, siege tank 1, then siege mode. By the time those have cranked out, you have either a second, full bunker or a bunch of marauders (on Hold Position) blocking immediate entry. Usually by the time the second siege tank is spitting out, the first wave is on it's way if it hasn't already started. The 2 bunkers and a tank or two always turn away the first wave.

At this point I pump out a couple more tanks to guard the entrance and proceed to the final phase. Start your next base expansion and build 3 Star Ports with tech labs. Crank out 8 Banshees, set rally point on your existing Banshees and keep cranking them out. You can pump out some Vikings if you want but it's a waste of time initially because they rarely have air units (zerg sometimes do) and Banshees have Cloak. You cloak your guys and lay waste to the base. If you need Vikings, you can have a couple ready and down to the base by the time cloaks start wearing off. gg

Edit: The command center is crucial to the Terran economy. Building MULE's to harvest gives you a huge jump in resources if you keep them consistently going. By the time one wears out, you have enough energy for another one.

Heading back to civilization tomorrow so I think I'm going to pick this up. I canned my WoW sub for the time being so probably going to use that scratch to pay for SC2. Woot!

I did something like that except I ended up with only one Starport, and just built up a force of Banshees and Vikings, which I had to do because I took a fair while to get going and get my first expansion and they already had various air units. I punched out one of their expansions since I was sure they already ran out of minerals at the main base, and killed a bunch of probes, a pylon, and a bunch of air and ground units. That basically put a stop to them attacking my base, so I build another air force and went back finished off that and another expansion that was newer and weaker, then went and knocked out the main base. I just kept feeding Vikings and Banshees into the attack force as they finished production. I like that combo since they both fly at the same speed.

I think command queuing is what has made me more effective in this game than the first one. It now seems less about your micro-skills. You can actually focus more on your strategy.

Things that helped me tons:
Queuing commands to your SCV's to build multiple things and then go back to harvesting.
Setting multiple buildings of the same type to a hotkey to easily queue up units.
Queue rally points to your longer lasting troops in your main attack unit so new troops make a bee-line to where the action is (or will be).
Using queued commands to un-siege a siege tank, tell it to move to another spot, and re-siege.

Good stuffs. I'd be interested to hear if you guys have other tricks.

Whoa, you can queue siege orders!? That's awesome!

Yea, just click where you want it to go, and hit Shift-E to queue siege mode. Same with drops. Click, shift-D, and right click another area so it goes in, drops off, and moves out.

I played a fair amount of 2v2 with a friend who's in Platinum 1v1 last night. We kept getting our asses kicked. So, I went over the replays and build orders and ...

Blizzard has some serious exploit fixing to do. With only 2 gates, one Toss player was producing 10 void rays every 30 seconds. One Zerg player had 16 Mutas before I had 16 Roaches. One Terran Player launched his first Battle Cruiser before we finished our Zealot/Roach Rush.

I think I may have been on the receiving end of that mutalisk one in the Beginner's League. This guy had a huge swarm of them before I had a factory finished.. and I was totally outpacing my partner in getting stuff built.

There's a pause exploit, too. One guy paused between 8 and 10 average supply for like 5 minutes. Pause ends, and he's got 10 Brood Lords and 4 Expansions.

How the **** are people doing this stuff?

And what did you mean earlier by "free probes?"

Thankfully, my 3rd beginner league match had no such shennanigans, and I and my partner (who I think was about at my skill level) won against a guy that I think was a bit better than us and one who seemed clearly inferior. Those rock barriers in the beginner league matches mean you can forget a fast rush; it took forever to blast through them with our combined marine/marauder/zergling force, while a siege tank pounded us. That siege tank was all we ended up killing. Thankfully, it didn't cost us too badly.

I watched a tutorial today on the Terran Fast Expand 3M strategy. Spent some time testing it against a friend. I'm thinking I'll ditch Protoss. That was way more fun.

I like playing all three. As it stands, I think only 1 unit needs nerfing.

"Free Drones" means you can intentionally oversupply with Zerg at 10 and 18 Supply.

Drones until 10 Supply. Wait until 75 minerals, start 2 Extractors and then start 2 drones. As soon as the drones are started, cancel the extractors and send them back to gathering. Start an Overlord, wait until 200 Minerals and start a Spawning Pool.

Then you spawn drones to 16 supply and convert one to an extractor. Spawning Pool pops, you throw down a Zergling, spawn your queen, convert another to a Roach Warrens, spawn another zergling, then you hit the extractor trick again and push another Overlord.

I'll have to try that, but I don't think you can convert a partially built extractor back into a drone.

You can, unless they patched it lately, but I don't think so. It's been around since SC1, but you do take a mineral penalty for using the trick. You don't get the full cost of the extractor back after you cancel it. It's not much of a penalty, though.

Diary of a Zergling

Quote:
Day 1
I just got spawned! There was another guy in my egg, though. Not too sure what to think about that. The creep looks pretty cool, I guess. My job is mostly running around the base. Nothing too awesome going on.

Day 2
A whole mess of Zerglings just got spawned recently. Met up with a whole platoon of them. There were so many I couldn't even remember all their names. Most of them are pretty cool, but some are suspicious as to what our purpose is going to be.

Day 3
The queen sent Zergling #21 to a 'watchtower'. Not entirely sure what his job is. According to other people, he just has to stand there all day. Sounds like he got the easy job!

Day 3.5
Zergling #21's corpse was found about 3 minutes after being deployed. He had 5 Gauss Rifle bullets in his chest.

The queen sent Zerglings #22-24 to go to the watchtower.

Day 4
There was much lament for Zergling #21. Some of my friends are saying that we're all in a suicide mission. I think they're wrong. We're soldiers, not expendable beasts.

Day 6
Day 5 was too hectic...there were six more funerals today. The queen declared she wanted some 'scouting information' and that they served their purpose. More skeptics are arising amongst us. Some zerglings are speaking of a revolt.

Day 7
We all got our wings today! Everyone's suspicions of a tyranny are being quelled by the minute. All the zerglings are much more pleased to be moving so much faster.

Day 8
Our entire army has recently received orders to rush into the enemies' base. Our primary objective is to attack SCVs and run around in circles behind other zerglings attacking SCVs.

Day 11
There was a wall.

There was a god damn wall.

We couldn't break through. No matter how many chewed at the supply depot, we couldn't get through the damned thing. We were forced to retreat, losing 7 more soldiers to a small marine force piled behind the depots. The queen had no comment on this matter. The standard funeral is now being postponed by the swarm for 'important measures'.

Day 15
Mutalisks have begun to be trained at the hatchery. Our queen says they will solve the problem that the wall is causing. I can only hope at this point. I've seen too much.

Day 16
We've gotten recent orders to back up the mutalisk force in our impending attack. Our main goal is still hazy to me, as the mutalisks should be doing most of the work...

Day 21
I've lost all faith in the swarm.

Have you ever seen the bits of your comrades fly past you by a single shot of a Crucio Shock Cannon? Have you ever been so close to the heat of an Hellion that it takes you a minute to realize that your best friend is burning alive? I was hearing every tendon snapping and sinew ripping of my fellow Zerglings. The distorted looks on their faces as they realize they've been hit directly in the skull by a sniper round.

I barely escaped. I should be dead; just like the rest of my platoon. It was only me and 6 others that got away. Over 38 died.

We weren't an army. We were a distraction. The mutalisks were in on it, too. They took out probably 10, maybe 20 SCVs. But how many soldiers was it worth? How much do we have to sacrifice to win this war?!

Day 23
We can see the Terran forces coming over the horizon. They are armed with 2 of those infernal tanks and 4 gigantic mechanical monstrosities I've never seen before. I can taste my death.

Day 34
The Terran are toying with us. The tanks lie just outside of our homeland supported by rotating missile turrets in every which way. We are being contained. Our supplies are running low, we will be out of minerals soon.

Day 47
We have lost all of our resources. An army of Hydralisks and Mutalisks stand before me and my 6 Zergling companions. Our final attack is near.

Day 48
The queen has ordered me to 'test the front'. Alone.

Diary of a Siege Tank

Day 48
Spilled some coffee on myself during an attack. My life sucks.

Poor zerglings. I feel so bad when I send them to their deaths. I mourn each one.

Slow Terran and Toss amuse me to no end. In 4 separate games last night, I won on my initial rush of 4 or 6 Zerglings. 4 is for Roach Swarm. 6 is for Speedlings and Banelings.

I tried out that build order you posted the video on Mook, once against a Terran AI, where it worked well, and once with a Zerg partner against 2 Terran opponents, where it also worked well, although I got slowed down by him sneaking reapers into my SCVs early. Thankfully that opening build meant I had plenty of marines to fight them off and I wasn't crippled. I'm very pleased with it; just gotta try it against Protoss now. Embarassingly, tht wa the intent of playing it against the AI but I forgot to switch the race at the start screen *facepalm*.

That Zergling journal is awesome.
